As dusk fell last night, a man parked his white Cadillac DeVille outside of Ezell’s Famous Fried Chicken, across the street from Garfield High School, at 23rd Avenue and East Jefferson Street. He went inside to order some chicken. Moments later, another man perching on a fence at the edge of the parking lot fired six or seven shots into the man’s car, a Seattle police report says.

“I was playing tennis at Garfield High School with a friend, when we heard a series of shots,” says Remy Peritz, who lives a few blocks away. “We were still talking about what had happened and what we should do when we heard sirens coming… then the police started coming and surrounding the area.”

The suspect fled the scene, “jumping over several fences, throwing the gun in front of him each time he jumped over a fence,” the police report says. According to a witness at the scene, the shooter, who wore dark clothes and a black puffy jacket, climbed over a final fence and jumped into a maroon, four-door car with a shiny grill and sped off.

Officers found bullet fragments inside and around the white Cadillac. The car’s owner told officers he didn’t know anyone who wanted to shoot him. Nobody was injured.

“I was really worried that it was another high-school kid,” says Peritz.

Last October, one teenager was shot dead and another severely injured outside of Garfield High School. And last December, a man was shot outside of the Garfield Community Center.

  6. @1 – It’s telling that Dom didn’t need to include that info. Seems to me that the blacks in that neighborhood are far more dangerous than pitbulls. Perhaps we can elect Savage as Mayor and he can ban them all.

  7. The real question is: did the dude get his chicken or not? I’ve tried the Ezell’s in Lynnwood and was very disappointed. Service aside, the chicken was scrawny & greasy, the cornbread was mediocre, and the beans were poor. Is the CD location better?

    Yeah, but until all the new housing construction that’s gone on within a few blocks of that location tapers off, there’s going to be some smokin’ deals for folks looking for bargains; I’ve got six new homes either just completed or about to be completed within two blocks of me, and I’m just south of Union.

    Don’t know if any feature bullet-proof windows, though…

    Yeah, we get a lot of this here in Wallingford. Kids from Fremont come over and call our kids sissies. Then our kids go back over to their side and diss their daddies’ law firms. Then they come back and call our Mamas ‘stroller-mom b•tches’.

    It gets really ugly up here.

    I was in Ezell’s when the shooting happened. We all heard the shots, got behind the counter into the kitchen and waited for the police. After we all got our food, including the poor guy who’s car got shot up.

  34. Everybody should get free chicken … or at least the guy whose Caddy got ventilated.

    But just generally speaking, everybody should get free chicken, every day.

    Especially the PETA people.
