From a CBS interview with Daniel “I-used-to-be-Harry-Potter-but-now-I-wave-my-wand-in-Equus” Radcliffe:

Another fan was curious about Radcliffe’s taste in music.

“There’s a great — there’s a band called The Wedding Present, who have just released a song — who have been going for ages, I think. They just released ‘Hope Loves Betty,’ which is great. Now I’m struggling to think. Holy Ghost Revival, a band. They have a song called ‘The Gospel According to Judas.’ They’re sort of between, there are bits of Bowie and glam rock. I can’t think of any more at this particular point in time,” he said.

A digression: I think that video was shot shortly after my we’d returned from a two-month European tour for which I agreed to roadie/sell merch (if you asked my brother) or chaperone (if you asked my mother). It was a trip of waking up in strange places: on a cot in Stockholm with a Swede’s feet in my face, in a bed in London with two ladies who weren’t there when I’d fallen asleep, on the freezing and barely-carpeted floor of a (concrete, uninsulated) squat in Munich as two beefy German goth-punks snorted crank off a table two feet from my head. In those two months, I learned to sleep like a soldier.

  1. And the Weddoes. Interesting. I have no interest in Harry Potter, but I’ve liked Radcliffe ever since I saw him fling an unrolled condom onto Diana Rigg’s face in “Extras”.

  2. I’m a little surprised I guess, but good for him in having good taste. I’m also surprised by how good the new Wedding Present album is.

  3. It’s not so much cool as it is weird.

And a little disorienting—when a famous person is a fan of your not-very-famous brother, it upends the normal fame pyramid.

Does having a celebrity as your fan make you a celebrity by proxy? A celebrity’s celebrity? A proto-celebrity? It’s all very confusing.

  4. Is this the band from Bainbridge Island that won some kind of “battle of the bands” a while back? Wow, off “The Rock” and on to “rock semi-stardom”.

  5. @15 No that was gruff mummies and it was that under 18 band contest at emp. they were really into holy ghost revival and sounded a bit like em… unless hgr won some other battle

  6. @12: allow me to answer that for you: yes. YES! YES! having a famous fan makes you famous. it’s in the by-laws. which are not anything like the in-laws.

  7. Wow im sorry but i dont like dan with that beard! its just so…yuck!!
i like his clean hairless face. he looks way hotter when he plays harry potter. except in equus when he gets his cloths off! that is hot i bet. to bad even if they made a movie of the play. like recorded the play and made it for sale, they would put some black box over his “wand” if u know
    what i meen! 😉
