First off, the band’s name is “Sonseed,” which is just so wrong. Second, there’s—well, just watch.

My favorite lyric: “Once I tried to run, I tried to run and hide. But Jesus came and found me and he touched me down inside. He is a like a Mounty, he always gets his man. And he’ll zap you any way he can!”

Thanks to Slog tipper Annie.

  1. This was posted on Slog the other day.

In fact, I had the “Jesus is a friend of mine, Jesus is my friend” line stuck in my head for the better part of the weekend. Lucky me.

  2. “Zap you anyway he can”? That sounds oddly like Barebacking!!!! Jesus is not practicing safe sex and infecting you with his sonseed.

    Clearly, Jesus is evil!!!

  3. Did you not even notice this from last week? If you’re reposting because you still find it funny, at least point that out. If you’ve never seen it, then maybe you should read your own blog.

  4. I didn’t bother to listen to this the first time (having just watched the other Christian video posted that day) – but I have to say I’m glad you posted this twice – what a great little tune 8^)

I wonder if those lyrics are actually his way of getting out the message of being molested by a youth pastor or ‘pray away the gay’

  5. What are the odds that the mustachioed backup signer with the pedi-smile landed on 1983’s equivalent of “Youth Pastor Watch”?

    I’d say 1:2.

  6. Goodness, do I ever love the Slog at this moment. Not only did I get to read about the history of the band, but I also got to see Anderson Cooper on Sesame Street! How cool is that!

    Two things about the video:

    1. Is it just me, or is the guitar player rocking that early ’80s, been-listening-to-The-Clash look a little too well to be convincingly Christian? I think there’s a little bit of Satan in his pants.

    2. How weird is it that the syncopated rhythm of that song got transferred from Africa to the New World, roiled around Jamaica for a few hundred years, turned into ska, and then became the WHITE-IST THING EVER? Cultural imperialism lives, man.
