California AND Santa Cruz, you say?
Vampire Chihuahuas?
Uh, yo quiero Paco Swell?
Good eats.
@1 – obviously this means that all of California is somewhat overrun with small dogs, but in Santa Cruz you can’t take a step without kicking one.
No kidding! Today, on the Pasadena Humane Society’s webpage, there are 95 dogs offered and 30 of them are (presumably) purebread Chihuahuas….and that’s not counting the mixes. It’s not new, though: It was about the same when we adopted our (non-Chihuahua) dog from there in March of this year.
Abandoning a pet dog or cat ought to get you three years in pokey. In fact, the sale of dogs or cats should get you three years in pokey as well.
Too much bone and gristle. Condor, now that’s good eatin’.
the issue is dirtballs breeding too many dogs. ain’t much to be done about it – fix this oversupply and they’ll just move on to the next trendy breed – frenchies, doodles, petit basset griffon vendeens. and they’ll always make too many pits.
Better Chihuahuas than bed bugs I always say.
@8: I dunno. You can always fatten some of ’em up by feeding ’em ground up surplus Chihuahua. I mean, it leads to Mad Chihuahua Disease, but they look so funny when their legs buckle as they wander down the street, looking for an ankle to bite.
looks like there is some blue heeler in that dog.
Owners are probably jobless, verging on homeless. Who needs another mouth to feed in this economy? It’s more expensive to keep a dog than one might expect — many dogs are just one vet bill away from destruction.
But, chis have crappy personalities, too. Very dog aggressive. Not good with kids as the article points out. Conscientious breeders will take their dogs back and rehome them. Pet stores and backyard breeders — not so much.
This is absolutely true. 95% of the dogs in the Bay Area shelters (one day we went to 10 or 12 of them in a marathon) we looked at were either Put Bulls of some sort or Chihuahuas. It was weird.
