While the Herman Cain sexual harassment scandal continues to be lacking in salacious details…
One of these people said that Mr. Cain, during an industry-related conference, asked a female employee of the association to visit his room. The person said that woman declined Mr. Cain’s suggestion, there was no physical contact and Mr. Cain was not intimidating.
…Cain’s backpedaling and confusing explanation for why he denied having knowledge of a settlement before confirming that he had knowledge of a settlement is pretty interesting:
Cain responded that the word ‘settlement’ made him think legal settlement, which was what he based his first statements on.
“Later as I thought about it and thought about it I did recall an agreement with the lady that left who made the false accusations.” Cain added, “So that’s when I said, yes there was an agreement.”
“When I was initially hit with this when I woke up yesterday morning trying to stay focused on my day I didn’t recall it right away, so yes there was an agreement that I later added to my explanation.”
Sounds pretty Clintonian to me, only with more outright confusion and without the acute legalese. That’s what I like to hear in a president: “Don’t ask me a question early on a busy day, because I get confused and forget things until after lunch sometime.”

So, is this whole “scandal” about a guy who asked a woman up to his room, she said no, and he respected her decision and left her alone? I don’t care for Cain, but I am happy to know I don’t have to add rapist to my list of things I don’t like about him.
It’s lacking in salacious details because the people signed a nondisclosure agreement for their settlement, for fuck’s sake. Not because the details do not exist.
There should be out clauses for these settlements if the harasser out and lies about the character of the women.
