Speaking of which, all driving-and-doing-anything-on-a-cell-phone became a primary offense in Washington State last Thursday. On the way to work, I saw at least a dozen drivers doing all kinds of shit on cell phones. If cops issued $124 tickets to everyone who deserved it, we could rebuild the South Park Bridge and line it with diamonds.
(Yes, I know this bridge fantasy involves unrealistic overlaps between city/county/state funds, but let me have my dream…)

I can understand making a quick call while driving to get directions or apologize for traffic-induced lateness, but I swear the majority of cell phone using drivers are simply having normal conversations.

As a person who walks everywhere in the city, I’ve been watching drivers. They’re still talking on phones as much as ever.
Its almost like these laws are silly and don’t really do anything.

This ban is a potential gold mine: During the December ’08/January ’09 ice storm, almost every driver attempting to drive down the closed Denny overpass had a cellphone pressed to their ear! These are selfish idiots putting the public at risk – fine ’em to death before they kill some one! – Capitol Hill pedestrian.
SPD simply doesn’t have the resources to ticket deadly lawbreaking drivers. Too many black jaywalkers and Hispanic pedestrians still roam our streets.

I have a difficult time imagining the Seattle police bothering to stop drivers for this, especially having witnessed them totally ignore cars zipping through red lights.
