… and probably a faster laptop.
I’m not the world’s biggest or most committed gamer, but Star Craft II has sucked me in. If you have any inkling towards real time strategy games (think computerized speed chess with gross-looking aliens as one of your options), this one is worth your $60.
As a bonus, after playing a bit, this all makes complete sense to me:
My summer will really end when this arrives.

I’ve been playing a lot, recently, and have gotten pretty good. But all of a sudden I’m worn out on it. A lot of these RTS games are fun but stressful to play in a way that only playing a competitive sport can really be.
Yes, but will it run on the new 4GB Mac Mini if I hook up the HDMI port to my 1080p HDTV?
That’s what I want to know, so I can have PiP Starcraft while I laugh at City Council on Channel 21 …
I liked the old Star Craft, so I picked up the new version. It’s pretty fun. I have a tendency to become totally obsessed with a new game for a week or two, and then I’m over it. For that couple weeks I’m pretty anti-social. After that, I can play occasionally, sanely, and I can return to a normal life.
I liked the early versions of Civilization. I like II and III. It has gone down hill ever since. Better graphics but suckier play. The nicer graphics are cool, but it is annoying when it is done at the sacrifice of enjoyable game play. So I’m going to wait until I see some reviews of Civilization V before throwing down cash for it.
Void Rays are fucking sweet
@ Reverse Polarity: You’re just gonna sashey from RTS to TBS and think we won’t notice? You might as well be comparing the experience to Halo! *harumph*
Is anyone else as bored with Halo promo stuff as I am?
Pssshhhhh VR sucks against stimmed marines. Or phoenix. Or corruptor or queen (low VR count only). Only time I go VR is if they go heavy roach/ultra or tanks/marauder, but it’s way too easy for terran to get appropriate AA. Rather spend the gas on mass stalker or phoenix if u really wanna go stargate.
@1 I feel the same way, sometimes, a little nervous and stressed before starting a 1v1 game because it’s ranked and competitive. Then I remind myself it’s just a game and get on with my baneling bust. I’m going to be addicted to this game for some time to come.
@7
Yes.
Slog + SC2? I’m in heaven.
@7 Since Terran is OP, generally MMMs can kill anything. I was speaking more aesthetically than competitively about the virtues of Voidrays.
I believe you mean you REQUIRE more vespene gas.
Also you should probably spawn some more overlords.
@7 a single Void Ray > 1 Queen, which is why it’s a popular rush vs. Zerg (hydras almost never come out in time, and the additional Queen is delayed if they tech)
and @11, agree. Blizzard will patch Terrans to nerf Tanks and BC’s and delay Reapers, but I really wish they would just nerf MMM.
Jonathan and others: Let’s play sometime! I’m also sucked in, and would love to play more than I do. Maybe organize a Slog tournament (like the weekly Reddit tournaments…)
My life is over when Civ 5 comes out.
I’d like to apologize in advance to my girlfriend, friends and coworkers.
Currently writing sci-fi RTS with some friends. Definitely sneaking a command to “construct additional pylons” into one of the tutorial levels…
SC2 and Civ V, two tastes that taste great together!
