If Barack Obama single-handedly saved a baby from being run over by a runaway Walmart truck, Rick Santorum would accuse the president of being anti-business:

In a speech before the Republican Jewish Coalition in Washington, [Santorum] slammed the White House on Wednesday for its handling of the Bin Laden operation, suggesting that the president revealed news that the mastermind behind 9/11 died at American hands too soon.

Christ, what an asshole.

  1. When would’ve been a more appropriate time? A few weeks? Months? YEARS? I’m sure he just meant it was too soon for Rick Santorum, because if Osama bin Laden was still alive, surely Santorum’s poll numbers would be better. Right?

  2. I think he’s actually running for Wingnut-in-Chief.
Of course, we all know that Pat Robertson is going to die soon, which will elevate Pat Buchanan from his junior position as the voice of the religious uber-right, thereby leaving a position Santorum could easily fill. Maybe he’s crazy like a religious-zealot fox.

  3. Wait, what if Osama bin Laden was gay? Then how long would Rick Santorum have waited before announcing his death to the world? What if Osama was a fetus?

  4. @ryanayr:

I believe the (relatively uncontroversial) point was that by announcing the death within hours, Obama nullified, or at least gave a head’s up, on any actionable intelligence that was recovered from the household (laptops, contact numbers, etc.) to targets of said info.

While the fog of his death was still intact, US intelligence had a window to operate on those leads and preserve the upper hand. Since tipped, the intelligence became much less actionable as presumably cell phones were discarded, new codes created, etc.

  5. @9 But the desired affect was to demoralize the enemy. Anybody worth his salt knows demoralizing the enemy is priority one. The fact he was dead would have spread like wildfire, anyway.

  6. @9- If what we have heard is accurate, Bin Laden hadn’t been in an operational role in several years, and would have been unlikely to possess much that would be helpful. As an organization, they have been pretty good at compartmentalizing operations, which prevents chain of command interruptions and lateral security breaches.

But but more important— the fact that Santorum is universally cited as the stupidest person on capitol hill- no joke, ask around, even GOP staffers agree he is sub-literate.

  7. You know, over at Conservatives4Palin, he’s being put forth as the One True Conservative (after the Mama Grizzly who will still be president in 2012, but anyway…). And they’re going straight up bonkers over the fact that the LEFT (rhymes with SATAN) is so scared of his ability, nay surety, to claim the GOP candidacy that the LEFT will do anything to smear (ugh) him. If you’ve not been there, I suggest a brief visit. It’s like a haunted house — it’s really scary, but at least you know where the exit is.

  8. A desperate man will say or do anything, no matter how heinous or nonsensical, if he thinks it will help him out of his extremity.

Rick Santorum is clearly desperate for non-poop-related attention.

  9. @9 – Yeah, ok. I get it. As quoted, Santorum, oddly enough, wasn’t getting his point across. I literally didn’t get what he was going on about. You know, because, a napkin, isn’t a paper towel….you know?

Question: Would they have preferred Obama to fly a plane onto an aircraft carrier and with a big Mission Accomplished banner behind him and personally rake the corpse of Bin Laden with a machine gun before torching it with a flame thrower a la the movie Aliens?

    Answer: yes
