- Feeding my Slog monkey aboard the Walla Walla
I’m headed to Bremerton aboard the Walla Walla, for a panel discussion with some labor folks about the challenges and opportunities they face in this ever evolving age of newish media (first tip on media outreach: don’t make us come all the way out to Bremerton), and of course, Internet junkie that I am, I couldn’t help but try out the WiFi aboard the Washington State Ferries.
My first impression, it works, and pretty damn well. My second impression $7.95 for 24 hours of access from a single hotspot? Kind of a rip off, Boingo. My third impression, $9.95 a month for regular ferry commuters is a pretty good deal, especially considering how well the WiFi seems to work. My fourth impression, $7.95 for a single-day pass? You better be defining “hotspot” as the entire Washington State Ferry System, because if you try to charge me a second time for my trip back on the Kaleetan, I’m gonna take back all the nice things I just typed about about how well your WiFi works.
To be continued….

I think that the $7.95 buys you 24-hour access to any Boingo hotspot, anywhere. At least, that’s how it’s worked for me in the past
Might as well buy the monthly.
By the way, don’t retweet in China or you might find yourself in jail for 10 years for “reeducation”. That includes Hong Kong and the other former British colonies there.
Just expense it.
Wait, Will — are you saying there’s INTERNET CENSORSHIP in CHINA? Good God, man, why aren’t you on the phone to the New York Times with this breaking news?
@4 no, I’m saying they are now imprisoning people for using the Retweet feature for embedded short links.
Try to keep up, you probably have no clue as to how many Chinese cities have had insurrection attempts over the past few weeks.
Eww, Bremerballs…
Normally 3G works fine, up until you reach a midway mark where no service is available. Then its time to play videos or listen to music. Paying for another internet connection is obscene.
Cable HSI: 45$ a month.
3G Service (TMobile) 25$ a month.
WiFi: 10$ a month.
I cant wait for white space technology to come out. Buy a 3″ PDA, install skype, as long as you dont travel further than 30 miles from your router at home, unlimited everything and the only costs you pay are upfront for the hardware, when it shows up in 5 years.
Enjoy riding that hand-me-down ferry Winslow traded in.
Q. How do you make a Bainbridge Islander cuss?
A. Pretend the state’s renewing the “bridge from Bremerton” idea.
In before “UGH I HATE BREMERTON MEH MEH MEH”
oh wait
@5 relevant to topic how?
you can use skype to pay a cheaper per minute rate at boingo hotspots.
Will, you must be aware of some other former British colonies in China other than Hong Kong. Guess that was something you learned in one of your many past careers and adventures–did you serve with James Bond in Her Majesty’s Secret Service?
