  1. Miley Cyrus was 15 dating a 21 year old. Much more high profile, much more questionable, actually illegal if they had sex, nobody really cared (especially Miley’s Christian fans). People care about Sam Adams because they think he turned a teenager gay.

  2. @ 49 – It’s not a kink at all. They just look at the shallow, silly, immature twentysomething queens their own age and go, “Uh, no.” Makes perfect sense to me.

  3. True story:

I am from Kentucky (escaped to the East Coast years ago). My family? Fundamentalist evangelicals.

At their church (again, I am not making this up), the men play a game called “cornholing,” which involves throwing a small sack of corn through a hole in a board. This is done in teams of two.

I called home to my parents once (before I knoew of this strange custom; I never did it growing up), and my father was complaining to me about being paired with a 14-year-old at the cornholing tournament.

What the fuck, right? I had NO idea what he was talking about, except he made it clear that he and the 14-year-old “lost.” My sister later explained to me what “cornholing” is — at least to Fundamentalist Xtians in KY.

I just thought that might be appropriate to share here.

    You’re welcome.

  4. Just to be clear, I was connecting the @53 comments to the childish banter at @50. Some other posts jumped in between, so it looks a bit like it comes out of nowhere, this odd cornholing story. (Sorry.)

  5. What #45 said. Plus, Dan Dan Dan Dan Dan. TSK. Shame on you. When did 35 get to be “middle aged” ferchrissakes? You may be feeling middle aged now that you’ve turned 27 (you have, haven’t you?), but 35 is no more middle aged than 95 is.

  6. Knight didn’t fuck a minor, lie about it, coach the minor to lie about it, run for mayor while smearing his opponent as a propagater of gay stereotypes and lying about it, then act like that was all private and no big deal. So there’s nothing to discuss.

  7. How much younger than Dan Savage is Ashton Kutcher? And I personally think gay men need to be better role models, and all old men & women should find someone his or her own age. Is it really difficult to do that?

When Knight was 25, his boyfriend was somewhere near the age of nine or ten. It’s very simple math. And can you imagine that Demi & Ashton might actually have anything in common? Hey, maybe I’m wrong, but it seems as if adults are hypocrits for condemning childish behaviour in children, then behaving like adolescents themselves.

I think that all adults get mid-life crisis, and I also think we all have likes and dislikes that other people may not understand. Maybe T.R. is in love with his boyfriend, but I can’t help but think younger gay men are not mentally mature to be in a relationship with an older man, and are in some way being taken advantage of.

  8. I’m with #49. At the time, my friends and I felt the same way. By the way, I’m 47 and my partner is 32. And he’s the one who chased me.

  9. @61
Why make a blanket statement like “all old men & women should find someone his or her own age”? They *usually* do, yes, but why *should* they?
I am a 24 yr old woman, my boyfriend is 47. While this might raise some eyebrows, neither of us think he “should” be with someone else.

  10. @61 … Ashton Kutcher is 30. Dan is 44. So, 14 years. Also, Andy Samberg, whom Dan has drooled over in print is 30 as well. In other words, great point in zeroing in on the hypocrisy 61.

Honestly, I cannot believe all the posters here who would likely defend homos against haters all day long suddenly deciding that it’s their way or the highway when it comes to age.

  11. @ 53 – Yes, Andrew, I can confirm that that’s what that game is called. I learned that at the weekend-long party that is the Indianapolis 500 auto race. And the guy who told me this? Gay. He added, “That’s not the kind of ‘cornholing’ that I’m familiar with.”

But we’ve strayed far afield, haven’t we? Or maybe not…

  12. Ashton Kutcher doesn’t rely on votes, but he does rely on “popular support” to be successful (i.e. fans, viewers, and others who make him endorsement-worthy). It’s weird that people don’t seem to care nearly as much about his ‘naughty behavior,’ but I actually don’t think it’s about the whole “Adams LIED to a REPORTER!” thing. I mean, everybody knows politicians lie, and everyone knows that when asked a personal question sometimes people just aren’t honest about it.

I think it’s “ick” factor. Knight is seen running around with his cute barely-legal bf in fashion magazines, while Adams kissed this kid in the bathroom. We can all speculate that Knight probably porked this kid before 18 – with Adams, we can’t avoid the liklihood. It conjures up all kinds of rest-area images that give enlightened, non-homophobic people the willies. Adams is being trashed in part for being unpleasant – if he did it with a wink, some innuendo, and a little more and style, he’d be a bon vivant instead of a degenerate.

  13. Whoops. I’m fusing. It’s TR Knight I’m talking about, not Kutcher. Ashton is being porked by an older woman, not molesting a younger man.

  14. Those who are inclined to judge purely by the surface reality of age difference and without specific knowledge of the relationship in question need to ask themselves why they are doing so.

What hidden fear of your own are you projecting onto others? Perhaps consider that you might find within yourself the ability to understand and to accept people on their own terms instead of punishing, however subtly, those different than yourself.

In this most intimate of domains, are we to intrude with our whispered denigrations like children on a playground? Of what is there to be afraid especially since no one is asking anyone to form any relationship against their will?
