Driving north on Aurora a few minutes ago. To my left, mountains in the distance burned orange with a bright blue tint surrounding, like a pilot light. To my right, mountains in the distance looked like someone held a dim light against a sheet of paper stained fully with dark, purply ink. In front, there were purple and white flashes of three police cars pulling someone over.
I had to tell someone. It looked incredible. I’m going back outside.
(Best I could do, since I didn’t have camera handy… photo by Veo)

Wait, you didn’t even take a picture!?
yeah but that’s a really nice shot. glad you posted it. ahh seattle in the summer!
You were driving?!
It’s because of volcanic ash. There will be more sunsets like this for the next week or so.

wow. That IS beautiful.
I used to live right on the north slope of Queen Anne Hill, just west of the Aurora Bridge, and our apt. had a deck that was situated to directly face the setting sun this time of year. It was awesome when we had sunsets like this.
Aw. Nice.
I always wanna share when I see a gorgeous sunset too. I used to send text messages to friends/lovers to tell ’em to go look, but they mostly didn’t seem to really care. I guess I should get a blog. ๐
I took this photo almost exactly 3 years ago! Thanks for posting it. ๐ I friggin LOVE the near-solstice sunsets we get here in Seattle, they’re always so agreeable.
That being said, I’ve been meaning to take a picture of the GORGEOUS sunsets we’ve been having the past week.. the sky is clear and neon pink/orange and stays that way for a good 45 minutes after the sun sets behind the Olympics.
FYI – I think this makes 5 photos of mine featured in the SLOG, for anyone keeping track. I’ll just sit back and wait for the Stranger cover solicitations to come rolling in. ๐
Gorgeous photo. Looks like a winter scene with a frozen lake (except for the boats in the water, of course). Best wishes.
Love the sun, hate the pollen.
