My college campus was blessed with a very large grove of these trees, which shaded the open expanse between the dining hall and the auditorium. They looked innocuous, short and squat. They littered the ground with their ugly, shriveled pods. And in the fall, their blossoms engulfed a gasping campus in what can only be described as OVERWHELMING CLOUDS OF VAPORIZED SEMEN. I do not miss the semen trees. I am glad we do not have them here.
On a related note, if you have not seen this I insist that you watch it:

i LOVE that smell ..it reminds of that passage from ‘the world according to garp’ where garp’s mother waxes nostalghic about the smell of human seed.. earthy fertile , like freshly mowed grass..
sigh….
Ah, yes. And Frodo goes to the Grey Havens to sail wesst into immortality.
90 fucking degrees here. Feels pretty summery yet. Maybe some day.
I’ve smelled that stench somewhere on the UW campus. I think it was near one of the dorms.
They have those trees in Philadelphia. Scumbag trees we call them.
Oh yeah, my college campus had a few of those trees as well. A group of us would be walking down a sidewalk and eventually someone would have to say something, “…um, is it just me, or does it totally smell like spooge around here?” Didn’t know it was a carob tree, though. Thanks!
Did you ever go to galco old world market? It’s just a few blocks from that college. It was a favorite spot of mine when I used to live down there… amazing selection of unique sodas and classic candy bars and whatnot. It might have smelled like cum as well, I don’t remember.
Carob is way more delicious than chocolate.
*ducks*
i’m here in berlin and there are a ton of lindens (genus is Tilia, for any other hortdorks out there) – there’s even a very famous street named after them: Unter den Linden (it’s the big street in the former east berlin that leads up to the brandenburg gate) – however being a “gold star” dyke, i have never been around spooge/male cum/whatever yall care to call it, so i’ll have to i.d. some lindens while i’m here and see if i can figure out what it smells like…
There was a tree at U of Ill. that smelled like vomit. I don’t know what kind it was.
We had those at Reed too, I just always joked that it was all the newly freed freshman running around causing the smell.
In spring, when the hawthorne trees flower, you get the same effect. Narsty.
Fruit from the Ginko tree smells like vomit. Blech.
This makes me think of why the little people got hurked out of Heaven in Time Bandits – for inventing the Pink Punkidoo tree. Beautiful flowers. Smelled like shit.
Those trees are in Seattle. I know they’re on UW’s campus for sure, and I’ve smelled that around various other parts of town.
Not that I mind.
There’s some garden variety green leafed bushes in my neighborhood that are currently dropping small dark purple berris. Does anybody know what they are?
Smell is pretty subjective. I’m pretty familiar with both Linden and cum & they smell totally different; linden is more like a citrus-blossom scent, and is used in a lot of French soaps and perfumes. Never smelled carob though, hafta find some.
