The Stranger Election Control Board is at the Westin, home to the official Democratic Patty Murray Lovefest Confab, where we cornered city councilwoman Jean Godden, who offered her slightly cagey predictions for the liquor initiatives, Patty Murray, and other measures on the ballot.

Regarding the liquor measures I-1100 and I-1105, which Godden says would cost the city millions of dollars: “I would hope that both would fail, as the budget chair.” Still, immediately after this statement, Godden acknowledged that reforming liquor laws through ballot initiatives “is the only way that it happens. We reformed the blue laws. When I first moved here, a woman could not drink at the bar. We had to sit down at a table. I think we will change these laws. It may be painful as we get there. I think everyone thinks it is overdue. The legislature should have done something long ago.”

Um, okay. Asked again if she thought I-1100 might pass, Godden said, “I don’t have a crystal ball.”

“How about a crystal martini glass?,” asked the SECB.

“I actually do have a crystal martini glass,” replied Godden. “I used to be a martini judge, but I did not drive afterwards.”

Godden’s prediction for I-1098: “I’m afraid it might not pass.”
On a positive note: “I think Patty will win.” (Here’s hoping that former Martini Judge Godden is correct.)
