The Crocodile is a pretty sexy venue. Nice space, great sound, great all around venue. A little oversold last night though. Now a gotta go close my tab from last night…
The space is organized much better. Parts seem almost too nice for a place that will get so much wear and tear. I don’t get how the black and eggplant scheme says “Crocodile” or why they chose an old english font.
Big pluses for having a good security squad and investing in sound proofing. Having a sprinkle system they might become the only club if that law is ever enforced.
All and all I am glad that Belltown has sizable live music venue again.
I attended the show last night. I never attended the Croc before it initially closed. I thought the venue was fine though nothing particularly great. A few notes…
– It’s basically like a cross between Neumos and Tractor.
– It’s fire code capacity is 560 though the sold out show seemed like more. I could hardly move around the main bar. I might be mistaken, but I think it is a bit larger than it used to be.
– There is a balcony above stage right with a bar. The sound is terrible in that area, but it was far less crowded.
– 16oz micro brews were $5
– It was pretty cold inside near the front windows… even in the tightly packed crowd.
– The staff was efficient, professional and friendly.
– Bathrooms seemed clean and adequate. Lines formed at the set break but the wait was not too bad.
– Parking was a bit scarce. I paid $12 for a lot 2 blocks away.
All in all, I thought it was a fine place to see a band.

The balcony was over stage left, not stage right. Though the sound was muffled, the view down onto the stage was pretty cool. It might be worth while for the club to wire some speakers up there to recapture some of the high end and mid-range frequencies that get lost.
The Crocodile used to be the scummiest, shittiest, grossest, most disease ridden, duct tape waving, pole blocking, smelliest fucked up venue in Seattle. I hated it. Always dirty and someone working there was a dick head and it smelled like fuck. The new version is a million times better. Bra-fucking-vo!

I got to check it out for the Thursday early preview–so, I didn’t see/hear a live band on stage–but what I saw was amazing… A lot of smart decisions have been made and the main feeling I came away with was “very promising!”
Definitely doesn’t seem like the same place where my girlfriend-at-the-time got a beer spilled on her and later got accidentally punched in the face during a Tenacious D show…BUT…the true character of any venue comes from the people who frequent it, whatever the lofty ideals and exposed beams of those who offer it to them…
Will all of those nicely framed archive posters in the stairwell to the balcony survive the first month? How nice will the bathrooms be through the summer?
We’ll see.
The truth is…as nice as the new Croc is, I’m in that demographic that weighs “how much I really want to see a particular act” versus “how much of a nightmare is it going to be to park close by.”
Again…we’ll see.

Checked it out last night. I think it rocks and am glad to have a venue back in Belltown – kudos to the new owners for saving and lovingly improving it. My only beef is the red wine for $8.99.
Saw Ken Griffey at the Croc…he was sitting with Courtney Love.
I was there for the Fri night show. The Croc used to be one of my fav venues in the cities – great sound being the biggest highlight. The new Croc is super nice inside, spacious floor and large stage with good lighting. My only beef was the sound that I hope will be worked out when it is all said and done. Maybe it’s because the room is so tall now? Not sure. Will def go there again. The line-up Fri night was awesome – Patrol, Bros of the Sonic Cloth and Akimbo. I hope they keep bringing heavier bands in and close that shithole El Corazon down.
i also went to the Friday night show. it was loud! i thought the new space looks and feels great – it works. i do need to mention the bartender (female) she was awesome. she made a great margarita – it was different and i liked it. i also thought the door staff was not at all attitude or pushy or rude – but actually thanked us for coming and struck up a conversation. i didn’t check out the pizza place or the bathroom. but be sure you don’t try to go in old front door – you’ll look like a douche (like me). it’s around the side now. welcome back croc!

Really? You ever see shows at any of the other bars in the general area like the Storeroom, Lake Union Pub, or the Off Ramp? I thought the Croc was one of the nicer places to see shows back then.
