But I do have a few questions about this:

Is a two-rate menu—a 300 percent rate increase for dudes or 75 percent off for the ladies—sex discrimination? What’s the group rate if some of the people are men and some are women? What’s the rate for trans people?

  1. @7 Eh…been there, done that. Does nothing for me, nor does it bother me.

Actually, though, I do like flipping a guy in a miniskirt every now and then.

Also, do you think he actually does a decent job of cleaning? Does he do floors? I don’t need them polished…just mopped.

  2. supply and demand. I would imagine more men than women would be interested in such a service; pulling from a bigger pool, he can aim for the top cohort and charge them more.

  3. @8 My limited experience with cleaning people (alas, I’ve only sampled the clothed variety) is that they are rather less detail oriented than I am. Also, I tend to equate via wine, as in, “How much wine could I buy if I skipped the service and did it myself?” It is remarkably easy to talk myself out of hiring a maid.

  4. @11 At $25/hr (the usual for clothed women), I found it easy to justify not hiring a maid. At $10/hr, I find it difficult to resist.

  5. Can you book one hour? I’ll give him $10 bucks to clean my small apartment for an hour and he can keep his clothes on. I would leave and let him be naked, but I don’t trust strangers w/ my precious piles of crap and clutter.

  6. And here’s today’s public service announcement: Yahoo’s e-mail service appears to be down for most everyone.

Sure, it has nothing to do with this thread, but there’s nowhere else to post it.

  7. Regarding the math: Both 300% and 400% are correct numbers with only tiny changes in how the sentence reads. Men pay 400% of what women pay (40/10 = 4 x 100 = 400). However, there is a 300% INCREASE from what women pay to what men pay ((40-10)/10 = 3 x 100 = 300). It’s the kind of incredibly subtle wording differences that screw people over on standardized tests. I should know, I write them.

  8. I probably could, but usually my clients seem to lose interest in cleaning soon after I arrive and find other non-cleaning related tasks for me to perform.

  9. @28 Meh…I just want my house cleaned…

My attitude right now resembles the only funny line in Exit to Eden from Rosie O’Donnell: “How can I fulfill your fantasy?” “Go clean my house.”

  10. My husband is always asking me what he can do to please me, generally after I’m done giving him a nice blow job. My answer never changes: clean the house.

His response never changes either: a laugh, a quick change in subject, and no cleaning.

I’d gleefully pay $10/hour to have a man clean my house. He doesn’t even have to be naked!

  11. @17-18: For people, like blib and Domino, who tend to make this mistake, asking the question “what would 100% be?” is an excellent self-check! If rate A is 100% of rate B, that means rate A and B are the same. If rate A is a 100% increase over rate B, rate A is twice rate B. If blib still insists this is wrong, I invite him to increase his rent by 100% and pay me the difference.

  12. i’m not so upset about the rate diff. for men and women, but undercutting the going rate for clothed housecleaners is very poor form. (i’d totally hire him anyway.)
