Samuel Alito, however, is just an asshole.

President-elect Barack Obama paid a visit Wednesday to the Supreme Court and chatted in front of a fireplace with Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr., a fellow Harvard law graduate whose confirmation he opposed three years ago…

Wednesday’s meeting was described as a relaxed, get-acquainted session. It included Roberts, seven associate justices and Vice President-elect Joe Biden.

The absence of Justice Samuel A. Alito Jr., who was at the court Wednesday morning for arguments in two cases, was a mystery. He has, however, voiced lingering anger over Senate Democrats, including Obama and Biden, who voted against his confirmation three years ago. When walking on Capitol Hill, Alito has said, he crosses to the far side of the street whenever he nears the Senate Office Building.

Alito is right up there with Dick Cheney among the most dangerous people in America. At least Cheney didn’t have a lifetime appointment.

  1. Anthony,
I highly suspect this source. Like Mark Twain once said “Rumor goes around the world before the truth has a chance to get its boots on”. We don’t know the reason why he was absent.

  2. So let’s see, Alito, a legal scholar and brilliant mind (whether you agree with his arguments or not) vs. Anthony Hecht from ‘The Stranger’? Yeah, I think the former guy has a lot more credibility and reasoned analysis than a know-nothing Stranger douche. Go chase a real story, cunt.

  3. Alito is the real cunt. And his slot is about as exclusive as a mailbox. Only a fellow douchebag would stick up for him.

And he has about as much of a “legal education” as his Uncle Tom – or should I say Uncle Clarence. He’s just good at parroting shit.

  4. As shoddy as this second (third) hand information may be, I suspect Alito is the type of bitter, angry, “score settling” right winger who would behave this way. Who can defend this guy? He’s douche and deserves to be treated as such.

  5. one thing that is not a rumor that at alito’s last harvard law reunion, he was also a no-show perhaps in part because a statement of non-support of his actions as being popularly circulated

  6. So everything said about Alito so far is based on speculation. You wonder why people actually get to positions where they can change policy? Because they don’t rely on speculation and they actually learn how to make legit, non-conclusory arguments. Love him or hate him, Alito will always be smarter than ANYONE who posts on this board. Deal with it, or get a REAL education, fuckers. It’s easy to complain. It’s a whole lot harder to work to change the things you think are fucked up in the world.

  7. @7 Sound reasoning there. Why don’t you put forward a legit argument based on, gasp, LOGIC, before you just resort to ad hominem attacks? Try again, loser.

  8. @8,

OK, while he’s probably not as dumb as Clarence Thomas (or as mean-spirited a jerk as Scalia), he’s still a right-wing hack.

He’s also a graceless jerk for blowing off Obama without at least bothering to make an effort to provide some sort of excuse.

Nice job complaining about ad hominem attacks by using them, by the way. Classic right-wing projection, there.

  9. @ 10 You still haven’t given me reasons why you dislike him. You just say that he’s a, ‘jerk’, or compare him to other justices you don’t like. But you still fail because of your lack of reasoning. Cite to me a SPECIFIC opinion he has written and the SPECIFIC reasons that you disagree with it. If you can’t do that, then fuck the hell off! You don’t deserve to be part of the dialogue regarding American Jurisprudence because you simply have no arguments of your own.

  10. unfortunately, alito is from my home town, so when he was confirmed as a judge, i had to deal w/ all of the stories about how WONDERFUL he is. they renamed a street after him and everything. ugh.

  11. That’s like how they always talk up Reagan like he was some sort of great leader instead of a pathetic cuckold who was pussy whipped into conservatism by his slutty wife and her creepy father.

It helped that he was addled by dementia – all they had to do was give him some talking points, lead him onto a dias, and let him do his B-movie thing, and the dipshits – of which there are many – ate it up with a spoon. All he really accomplished was putting a kindly face on greed, and made assholes feel better about themselves.

I do take comfort in the fact that he’s burning in hell now, right next to Nixon and fallwell, and that Nancy will join him soon.

  12. 13 For The Win. Suck it, right-wing bitches. The day you all stop heaping shit-loads of praise on Reagan for all the things that happened that you mistakenly give him credit for is the day we take you seriously.

Then I’ll go skiing in hell.

  13. In 1971 he chaired a student conference which drafted a report condemning sodomy laws and discrimination in hiring based on sexual orientation, along with other forms of invasion of privacy. He declared “no private sexual act between consenting adults should be forbidden.” and called for an end to discrimination against homosexuals in hiring.

  14. so what? You guys were trumping how much Obama was the messiah, so he’ll just beat up this dude in a back alley and it’ll be over.

  15. @19,

So? Obama opposed Roberts, and yet Roberts didn’t behave like a whiny, little baby. Besides, Alito has lifetime tenure. He is a really sad sack if he still can’t get over it.
