People all over Seattle react to the news that KOMO’s Marlee Ginter might be [a damn fine journalist].

  1. “Marlee Ginter sucks off goats” should be printed as a feature headline or “New Column!” heading on the next Stranger cover… It won’t just be a subject heading in her Fisher Corporation email — it will be on physical display in news boxes and coffee shops ALL OVER THE CITY!!!!

  2. A lot of the outrage should be aimed above Ms. Gintner’s head, at Dan Lewis and the higher ups at Fisher Com. They’re the ones who deserve to be embarrassed, because they’re responsible for content.

They probably gave her the assignment to do an expose of a tax-payer supported private sex club. She did a terrible job, but her employer bears the responsibility for spawning and propagating this kind of garbage.

  3. You blame her and you blame Dan, but do you think she is the only one at that station that saw the story before it aired? Not to mention you twisted youโ€™re to point in your video to the side you wanted. Was that the point? Show that your video is just a stupid and bias as that story? Okay, I get it….

    has anyone seen my goat?

  4. I agree with Journeyman, as bad as Ms. Ginter’s reporting was (inaccurate, libelous, biased, etc.) the responsibility ultimately lies with her bosses, managers, and the owners of Fisher.com. Remember the expression “the buck stops here”. It is a systemic failure of KOMO 4 and Fisher.com that allows this kind of sensationalism to parade as news and the management needs to be held accountable. They have broken a sacred public trust and this is not trivial.

Problem Solvers should have a follow up on their show, they should set the record straight, they shroud offer a heart-felt apology, and Ms. Ginter should be placed on probation. I have heard reports that this sensationalism is not an isolated incident for KOMO 4 News.

I am going off on a rant so fair warning…

I am still furious with the media for their lack of critical journalism and questioning in the lead up to the Iraq war. Critical questions about whether one should go to war needs to be asked before one goes to war, NOT after. If the news media had done it’s job or reporting, the US wouldn’t be in quite the financial mess that it is now. We wouldn’t have 3 to 4 thousand service men dead, countless others physically and psychologically maimed or scared for life (30 thousand to 100 thousand US service men?), wouldn’t have somewhere between 400,000 and 1,000,000 Iraqis dead depending on who’s figures you believe, and approx 2 to 4 million Iraqi citizens displaced. And finally we wouldn’t have the $1.5 trillion dollars wasted, probably with a final tally to be 3 to 4 trillion dollars, perhaps to finally be 40% of the entire US debt. Ouch! I am reminded of Caligula and how he ran the Roman empire financially into the ground. Thank you W for doing the same for the USA! Thank you US News media for allowing it to happen on your watch. Hell, it would have been cheaper in lives and dollars just to buy the oil outright!

There is a moral calculus that needs to take place to justify going to war, and the Iraq war did not meet the criteria of a just and righteous war. I place a lot of the blame for the Iraq war on the media and the shirking of their responsibility and sacred trust as a news media. As Thomas Jefferson stated โ€œThe best defense of democracy is an informed electorate. โ€œ And their can no informed electorate without an independent news media that reports with integrity. So you can see that journalism is critical to the well being of our very Democracy โ€“ I can’t stress how important this is.

So what can we do? We can limit media conglomeration. I for one refuse to watch Fox News (I call it Fox Noise, the โ€œWe distort, you derideโ€ network). Not only for their biased reporting and being the propaganda arm of the US White House, but because they are owned by Rupert Murdoch, who has way too much media ownership and influence then any one person should legally be allowed to have. Furthermore, I won’t consider ever supporting Dish Network because they are also owned by Rupert Murdoch, who has way too much media ownership and influence then any one person should legally be allowed to have.

We can insist on re-separating news organizations from their advertising arms. Speak with your congress person and let them know how you fell about these issues.

Don’t watch main stream news and especially stay away from Fox Noise and Bill O’Reilly (a bully that distort the news, yells at his guests, then shuts off their microphones when they disagree with him). Instead get your news from multiple sources such as NPR, Charlie Rose and the McLeher News Hour on PBS, the Huffington Post, CounterPunch.org on the Net. As a general rule, US citizens are not well informed on world events. Thomas Hartman and Rachael Maddow on AM 1090 are especially fair and informed, allowing contrary opinions and guests and allowing them to fully state their opposing views. Can you imagine Fox Noise or Bill O’reilly doing any of this?

And finally we can hold local news media responsible whenever we see inaccurate and biased reporting. This is what we are doing with KOMO 4 Problem Solvers, Ms. Ginter, KOMO 4 and Fisher.com. Perhaps they should be picketed, at the very least write in and let them know how you feel.

Enough! Hold the news media accountable!

  5. Awesome – “People all over Seattle (within three blocks of our office) react.” You walked all the way to Babeland for one reaction, that’s harder work than Ginter did!

  6. why are you bashing KOMO, didn’t they endorse and elect the president that you wanted?

yay, i expresso’ed danny savege as a corseted refucklican.

if you’re not trying to amicably solve it, then you’re as much of a problem.

  7. First you have the nerve to question Black Homophobia, then racism in the Gay community, but now you’ve really crossed the line Savage.

America’s Goat Blowers will not take this lying down.

  8. @25 best band name ever. i’m thinking sort of a glow-skulls-esque high energy punky sort of thing, only with a little more swing and a lot more horns.

  9. @4 – He can’t print “Marlee Ginter sucks off goats” or she could sue his ass. He has to say she MIGHT be, to protect himself from a libel suit.

And yes, you should blame her bosses, but if she is any kind of journalist, and I doubt she is, she shouldn’t put together a report full of lies. She holds the ultimate responsibility.

I hope there is good money in goat sucking. Her career in journalism probably won’t last long.

  10. Us goats won’t take this lying down, either. Most of us like to put our front feet up on the window sill or a bar stool. This goatphobia crap is comes from het boys jealousy of us, ever since they read Heidi (from chapter three):

And Heidi, shut up within the four walls, had often longed to be out of doors. So she felt very happy this morning as she woke up in her new home and remembered all the many new things that she had seen the day before and which she would see again that day, and above all she thought with delight of the two dear goats.

I have just two words to say to you and your anti-goat propaganda Dan Savage:

    Baaaaaaaaaaa!

    Big Billy Goat Gruff

  11. @20

That’s what you get when a Control Valve company runs a local newscast. The bad URL just makes me question the rest of your stats.

When you picket…be sure to get the address right.

  12. This is the kind of story that only the Stranger could do. And really, while it may seem juvenile, haven’t we all put up with this kind of bullshit reporting for far too long?

I hope the Stranger keep at this story, not to beat it to death, but to drive the point home about shoddy journalism and mainstream morality being reinforced through misinformation.

  13. Fat, ugly, disgusting, pathetic slobs pay money to join a club so they can have sex with obese Sasquatches and hideous ogres. That’s fine. But, why should we have to pay for these losers to do disgusting things to each other at their clubhouse? The thought of it makes me want to throw up. Overweight, sweaty, smelly, unclean freaks who have to pay to have special ed sex with each other. A goat would be a step up from the human garbage that goes to that sex club.

  14. I do so enjoy a good time, be it a goat or an octopus. Thank you all so much for caring enough to delve into my sex life. I would like to try out a pot-bellied pig, I hear that their cocks are curly like a cork screw. What fun. Please let me know if your pig is in need of some service.

  15. @39, You seem to have some pretty intimate knowledge of these folks. Have you been doing some hands-on research at the “clubhouse” or are you approaching this issue Ginter style?

  16. “I think people should be free to engage in any sexual practices they choose; they should draw the line at goats though.” — Sir Elton John

  17. @39 Yes! I know! So crazy! I just looked at last paycheck and there was a Sex Club deduction right alongside FICA! Can you believe it? The government is taking my money, from my paycheck to fund Sex Clubs all over the country! I think it was Obama’s first decision as President-elect… I’m writing my Congressman as we speak!

  18. Oh no! I just found out that my Congressman is Rahm Emanuel! I can’t write to him — he’s probably the one who suggested the whole dirty Sex Club subsidy to Obama in the first place! Is there no one I can turn to?!

  19. Dan likes to attack individuals at the lowest level that are living hand to mouth. Never does he go after his peers in the higher up management positions? Why is that?

  20. I’m sorry that McCain DIY bumper sticker site has been taken down.
    “I AM Marlee
    THE possible goat-blower
Don’t tax me for working hard!”

  21. @46 i’m not so mad: last year i was able to take a deduction because the people at my local completely government funded for-profit sex club were ugly and/or overweight. i was able to write-off some of my taxes because of this exemption. you should look to see if you qualify for the same.

that said, i’m furious over Marlee Ginter and her Farm Subsidies.

  22. #39…There are fat people everywhere (just like there are dumbasses as you’ve proven), that’s why it is considered an epidemic. But if you feel better telling yourself that everyone there is nasty, you won’t feel bad about missing out on seeing Sarah Jessica Parker flogging Brad Pitt the other night.

  23. COMMENT DELETED: Threatening

  24. @ #28. I’m pretty sure this is such fucking obvious satire that no libel suit would ever stick. She’s a public figure and satire, even as disgusting as this one, is typically protected speech in such situations. Ask Larry Flynt and Jerry Falwell (and Falwell’s mom).

  25. @39: Couldn’t agree more: nobody should be expected to “pay for” a sex club if they don’t want to. So, you’ll be relieved to learn that you are, in fact, not paying anything at all. I realize that KOMO’s coverage comes out and suggests that taxpayers are subsidizing this but — again, to your relief — the club in question asks for and gets exactly zero dollars.

One thing makes me curious though. You seem really, REALLY concerned with the amount of obesity involved. Are you suggesting that if there are, in fact, pretty people attending you’d be willing to provide financial support?

  26. @4 / @28 / @57: the “might” is crucial not because of potential libel issues, but rather as a lampoon of the hand-wringing sensationalism that pervades local TV news: “Could your home be poisoning your children? What hidden dangers lurk on the school bus? Might your time be wasted by contrived controversies peddled as news? Stay tuned!”

Marlee Ginter might be sucking off goats! Dan Savage might be embezzling ice cubes! Your foot might be on fire! Concerned citizens might be asked leading questions off camera and then edited in such a way as to suggest outrage!

  27. Using the word “might” will not save Dan. It is obvious that this is a malicious attack, not satire. He wants to cause her harm. He wants her to lose her job. He wants her to be harassed. He wants her family to suffer because of his harassment. Anyone who reads this site can tell that this is not satire. If it were satire he would have stopped when people began to threaten her and her family. Instead it only geared him up to do more harm.

To claim that is is simply an adolescent frat-boy wannabe giggle fest would be inaccurate. This is Dan Savage’s malicious attempt to cause harm to someone. Was he named in the story? Was he directly provoked? Has this reporter maliciously tried to ruin his reputation because of his writings? I hope she hires a lawyer, this will be an easy victory.
