Did you know that they’re releasing four new pennies to celebrate the 200th anniversary of Lincoln’s birth? It’s true.

This will give grandparents around the country a reason to live for one more year, much like the statehood quarter series.

  1. Why the fuck are we still making pennies. They cost more than they are worth and are a complete waste. It really wouldn’t be that hard to round every price to the nearest 5 cent increment! DOWN WITH THE TYRANNY OF THE WORD HONEYMOON…er, I mean the penny.

  2. The penny should be eliminated. It costs more than a penny to make a penny. In 2006 it costs 1.26 cents to make a penny. with the cost of metals having increased since then they probably cost even more.

  3. The zinc industry lobbied for it. Pennies are mostly zinc, not copper. Anyway, when anyone collects (i.e. saves) US currency, regardless of age, it is good for the economy. The quarter thing was a boon for the Fed.

  4. Wait, what? How much does it cost to do this completely needless event? WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH OUR COUNTRY?!

Seriously you guys, I’m freaking out here. Cats and dogs, living together. Mass hysteria.

SO true. My mom is going to give all her grandkids a book each of collected state quarters. This will thrill her to NO end.

  6. Excuse me, but I think all pennies should look the same. Quarters too.

All this spamming of different-looking coins just imposes a mental tax on everyone. You can’t just glance at a handful of change and automatically pick out what you want, it takes some serious thought now.

It must be even more confusing for tourists from other countries….

I am old enough to remember the Bicentennial quarters in 1976. This got the whole thing started and now it is complete chaos.
