So, I’m at Bruno’s watching Blago get convicted by the Illinois State Senate, that pack of hacks. Pretty cool. Democracy in action. So far all Yes’s.
They’re already beyond the 2/3 vote required to disqualify Blago from being Governor or ever holding elected office again.
UPDATE: Unanimous, 59-0. He’s no longer Illinois governor. Next vote is his “political death sentence” according to the talking head on TV. He’d be barred from ever holding elected office again.
Meanwhile, dig John Kass on another recent Chicago courtroom event, the sentencing of an Outfit hitman. Organized crime is the heart of Chicago’s political corruption.
Also, the common wisdom is growing that Blago’s media tour the last few days hurt him in a big way, since it was a slap in the face to those Solons of Springfield. He skipped the whole affair until the end today, and that was a mistake.
Pat Quinn is our new Governor. Within hours, public moneys will begin to be spent removing the cursed name of Milorod Blagojevich from signs along the tollways and at the borders with our fellow states.
And the talking heads on the news are saying that the second Blago was convicted, his State Police security detail packed up and drove away from his Ravenswood Manor bungalow. The perks of office evaporate pretty quick.
UPDATE: Another unanimous vote. No more politics for Rod.
The mood on the street in Chicago is not jubilant. We’re sick of this mope, and are glad to be rid of him. The political situation will be in an uproar, and that’s a good thing.

What’s the typical Chi City sentiment about this guy?
What if he moves to another state?
Sorry, had to ask.
“ever holding elected office again”
in Illinois.
YES!!! What a fucking asswipe. . . .
“No more politics for Rod.”
do you understand the resolution?
This is a miscarriage of justice by a group of hacks who had no interest in due process or an understanding of important legal (not legislative) principles such as quid pro quo.
Blago didn’t actually do anything wrong and (if it’s any consulation for the poor guy) should get an acquittal on his federal charges.
What surprises me is that a state with a history of corrupt politics could only manage to throw out the somewhat hapless and harmless governer while goons like Daley continue to rule their respective domains with a clenched fist.
FREE BLAGO!
People still remember who Solon was? That warms my heart.
@6 – I recognize that you are just trolling, but… “somewhat hapless and harmless governor” made me laugh. As a recent ex-Chicagoan, I would have to disagree with you there (just look to his political feud with Michael Madigan if you’d like to see an example how how his brand of politics interferes with effective governance of IL).
Even before the recent events, he has been a terrible governor (in October, he had the lowest approval rating of any governor). Trust me, there is no love lost between G-Rod and the people of Illinois.
@6 Todd, get out of the Loupner’s fridge already. You did make me laugh, though. Thanks.
@6: I don’t know what you are spoofing and it is making me angry and confused!!
In a perverse way, I kinda have a grudging respect for Blago. It’s just so rare to see a Demoncrat who’s grown a pair that I’m oddly fascinated.
It’s too bad that he can’t seem to use his powers for anything other than his own self-aggrandizement of course.
(Political death sentence void where prohibited.)
An impeachment like that is a fuckin’ golden thing.
Another “Milo”! God those scum are everywhere.
