  1. Sideshow geeks bite the heads off chickens for a living, Glenn Beck loses his mind. Same principle, different tax bracket.

  2. I predict this guy’s gonna have a brain aneurysm sometime within the next five years. He’s too high-strung. Someone please switch him to decaf.

  3. Daaaaaaaaaamn.

I love how he thinks everyone should heed the reasonable opinion that froths out of his mouth like a thousand strangling rabbits.

  4. A LOTTERY to go to the doctor in Canada?
I’ve lived in 3 provinces, and every time I wanted to go to a doctor, I either picked up the phone and made an appointment, or went to a walk-in clinic and saw a doctor within 45 minutes for no charge whatsoever.
Do you suppose he’s a bit fuzzy on the whole “bearing false witness” concept?

  5. I live in Massachusetts and the health care here is fine with me. And that issue with cutting insurance to legal immigrants isn’t final, either. http://www.boston.com/news/health/articl…

The caller was most likely right in that Beck has probably never had someone close to him not be able to get health insurance and then get seriously ill. It comes down to prevention vs. treatment. It’s cheaper to pay for prevention.

  6. @12,

It supposedly happens in really small communities in Canada. What Beck et al. conveniently don’t mention is the huge number of small communities in the U.S. that have no primary doctors whatsoever. Then there are the multitudes of doctors here who don’t accept new patients.

  7. @15. No, I don’t think that anyone gets to see a doctor by “lottery” in Canada. The lottery he is referring to is in Gander, and that is to allocate patients to a permanent family doctor.

  8. He mentioned France: My daughter was studying in Paris and went to the hospital when a benign cyst got inflamed. With no appointment, she got in right away to see a doctor (not a physician’s assistant, either), who examined her and prescribed medication. Cost of the visit with NO insurance: about 140 euros. Cost of the medication: 5 euros. Jeez, I’d HATE to see that happen here.

  9. that is to allocate patients to a permanent family doctor.

That’s what I’m talking about, and I was making the point that it can be really difficult to get a permanent family doctor in the U.S., especially in certain communities.

  10. I love the way that the conservatives in the US continue to claim it (socialised medicine) “can’t be done”.

I live in Australia (and always have) and I have government subsidised access to doctors and hospitals for all and any necessary medical procedures based on a 2% tax charge. This is through our system called Medicare (not the same as your Medicaid (?)).

As I am in a higher income bracket I am also required to purchase (subsidised) Private Insurance or agree to pay an additional 1% income tax. I choose to have private cover and so I only do the standard 2% Medicare contribution on top of my private insurance.

That’s it folks a maximum of 3% guarantees me full required medical care and with private insurance I can have access to non-required care as well. I can walk into any Drs surgery and be seen or I can go and see my family Dr and be seen or if I am not able to access either (late at night, strange town, etc) I can walk into a public hospital and also be seen.

If I was unemployed on a pension I would get all necessary care for free (at the same standard I get now) or if I earned less than I do I would get all necessary medical for 2% of my taxable income.

And guess what; the government pulls it out of my taxes and I don’t have to do anything to make sure my Medicare Levy is paid.

By the way the most I pay for medication in any one year is $500.

  11. Oh, puhleeze @12, 18 & 24! Now you’re just trying to confuse the issue with FACTS! Don’t you realize?

GLENN BECK IS NEVER WRONG! EVER!

  12. I sympathize with Beck’s reaction here. The woman (who I think was a plant) said that he didn’t care about the money spent on bailouts. He’s right: anyone who says that clearly doesn’t know shit about the Beck wing of the Republican Party.

He did a theatrical flipout on a staged left-wing stooge. Nothing to see here, move along.

  13. I live in Canada, and despite problems, it’s WAAAAY better then the US. By the way, no lottery. That’s just a lie, not that you couldn’t of figured that out, as it came out of Glen’s mouth
