“You want a prediction about the weather, you’re asking the wrong Phil. I’ll give you a winter prediction: It’s gonna be cold, it’s gonna be grey, and it’s gonna last you for the rest of your life. “
All I know is I’m sick of winter and ready for it to be over. Sigh. Two more months to go (I’m in Denver, remember).
The real meaning of this day, Feb. 2, is that it is a “cross-quarter day”, and traditionally a pagan holiday. It is half way between the winter Solstice and the vernal Equinox. (it’s a holiday in the same way that Halloween is half way between the autumnal Equinox and winter Solstice. The holiday’s name is Brigid, For the *snake* who would poke it’s head up out of its burrow to assess the warming days. That was clearly changed to a warm, fuzzy mammal later on in the US.
The days get noticeably longer –faster– from this day forward! That’s the real meaning of today.
