In an e-mail titled “Domestic Terrorism?” Slog tipper Patrick alerts us to this news report from Fort Hood, Texas.
FORT HOOD (November 5, 2009)-Army officials have confirmed a violent incident has happened Thursday afternoon on post.
The reports indicate there may be at least twelve and maybe even as many as fifteen victims involved in this incident.
Details have not been released but it is known that ambulances and police are converging on a location in the center of the sprawling military post.
And this report refers to a “mass casualty event.” Schools in the area have been placed on lockdown.
UPDATE: Seven have been confirmed dead, twelve injured in a mass shooting.
UPDATE 2: MSNBC says a second shooter may still be alive and “holed up” on the base. There could be a third shooter, as well. There have been at least two murder-suicides on the base in past years. One was as recently as 2008.
UPDATE 3: Waco television station KCEN reports that at least 20 people have been injured and that there were three shooters. One is in custody, one is cornered, and one is still on the loose.
UPDATE 4: KCEN is now reporting that there are two gunmen, and both have been captured. At least 4 SWAT officers have been injured in a gun battle with the second shooter.
UPDATE 5: Now they’re saying there are three shooters and one is still on the loose. There could be as many as 30 wounded.

Killeen, Texas? That’s where another mass shooting happened in the early 90s. That’s terrible…
What do you expect? Send soldiers to commit horrible crimes in Iraq and Afghanistan and they come home and commit horrible crimes against Americans.
PTSD
Why was @3 pulled? It was totally on topic.
The Stranger is not so hot on freedom of speech if you don’t agree with them.
Comment @ 3 looked like it was an entire article quoted verbatim. That’s a copywrite no-no. Just provide a link and maybe a pertinent quote from the article next time.
Far as I know, being able to write things down on other peoples private property is not a part of free speech law.
Zepol, you’re welcome to post links to those articles here, but we would rather you didn’t cut-and-paste entire articles from other websites into the comments section, that’s all. Thanks.

Knock yourselves out, fuckheads.
Typical gun nut: You know this wouldn’t have happened if soldiers were allowed to carry guns…
@3 What horrible crimes were committed in Iraq and Afghanistan.
@11, actually, Soldiers ARE NOT allowed to carry Privately Owned Weapons on any Army Post, even if they have a CCW from the State in which the post is located. If you live off post you are allowed to have one in your vehicle provided it has been registered with the Provost Marshal’s Office, but those living in On Post Housing are required to keep all POWs locked in the Company Arms Room.
Tragic news. that’s not far from Temple. I hope this is resolve fast.
In my thorough prayers now.
A well regulated Militia is necessary to the security of a free State.
A lot of bases are pretty open actually.
They are theoretically barred, but …
What? Loveschild, what ties do you have to Temple? This is my hometown. I don’t want to have anything in common with you.
Though it wouldn’t surprise me if you were from that region. Asshole.
I’m curious to see more details about the shooters.
@13 Fuck, so who got regulated to your not so thorough prayers?
I hope it wasn’t the cutsy-wutsy foetuses.
What is it about that area? Luby’s Cafeteria, 23 dead. Waco, 76 dead. Temple, Loveschild. Now this.
Well, to put it simply, they’re all pretty nuts in that area.
Always have been, so far as I can tell.
Oh, and Crawford’s right there, too, though I imagine Bush has already sold off that election prop.
I’m scared only a ten year old with no parents they cant get in here. The killer may very well be driving up my street stupid general all you need is an I.D to get on post golly.
CNN confirms 12 dead.
Spoken like a true Texan, Will.
Army spokesman confirms that the shooters were soldiers. Primary shooter had two handguns. All the deaths and injuries came in the initial incident at the readiness facility.
“A senior administration official told NBC News analyst Roger Cressey that the suspect who was in custody was an Army major with an Arabic-sounding name.”
Wow, way to be just non-specific enough while still being able to fan the flames of anti-Arab hysteria.
So sorry to hear about the killings in Texas. It looks like a big place. There certainly are some mad people out there arn’t there just. My condolences to those who got killed. People worr about such small problems in their lives. I will keep watching to see what is going on. Regards.

Someone I knew who came from that area once said it’s no small coincidence that Waco is spelled so close to Wacky.
Claimed the ground is thick with wing nuts and gun nuts and religious nuts and every other righty nut to be found.
And that it was only inevitable that things got extreme with regularity.
I’m so, so sorry to hear this. My condolences to all.
Right, raindrop, they were crazed arsonists who wanted their own arsenal.
