It’s genuine, and reflective of the historic nature of the victory.

  1. To be honest, McCain’s speech was excellent. If he had that kind of poise during the entire campaign, the election might have been up in the air and not a landslide victory.

  2. More than 10% of McCain’s speech went over how this was an historic election; bringing up Booker T. Washington, etc. I’m not denying that it was historic, but it wasn’t just that “an African-American” just happened to beat him. It was one particular man, Barack Obama, who kicked his ass. Framing it as a victory for all black people diminishes the extraordinary abilities of the man who beat him.

  3. A gracious speech, with interesting overtones of “now that you’ve elected a black president, I expect all of you to quit complaining about being ‘oppressed’ from here on out.”

Also, nice job setting up the sequel: Palin 2012.

Overall, McCain could’ve been a much better, more viable candidate had circumstances been different. Unfortunately for him, the ideology he has thrown his lot in with is at the end of its historical era.

  4. Where was THAT McCain during the campaign! The sincere, level, competant man who has done everything to serve his country??? Why did he turn into a power hungy thing! I’d still have voted for Obama but I hope McCain will forget the man he became and return to the well respected Senator.
