Seattle Police were called to a middle school graduation on Capitol Hill last night when a melee broke out after off-duty officers tried to arrest a teenage girl.
Just before 6pm last night, off-duty officers working Meany Middle School graduation ceremony spotted a 16-year-old girl who had previously been trespassed from the building.
Police say the officers attempted to arrest the girl when another 14-year-old girl jumped in and attacked one of the officers. Police called for backup and arrested both teens.
As police were transporting the two teens to the juvenile detention center, a third teen jumped onto the back of a patrol car and fled. Because a large crowd had gathered, police were not able to determine the identity of the girl who attempted to hitch a ride.
The 16-year-old girl was released to her parents. The 14-year-old was booked into the Youth Service Center for investigation of assault.

Now that is just a huge fucking surprise right there.
That’s a pretty broad use of the word melee, Jonah.
What the fuck is the point with middle school and jr. high graduation ceremonies anyway? And don’t get me started on elementary graduations….
I graduated from middle school back in ’77. Cap and gown and all that. I think the gowns were also used by the chorus.
There was nothing close to melee. 99% of the people there had no idea that the arrest even happened. Meany students are bright, motivated, and well educated citizens. It is stories like this that highlight the tiny sore spot and don’t mention the amazing efforts of our teenagers. I have to say this is all to common a problem in Seattle.
Melee? Seriously? Sounds like chicken scratch.
