So, you’ve all heard by now about how Urban Outfitters is apparently ripping off hard-working crafters, right? If you haven’t read about this story yet, you should. But now the story is spreading into weird crevices: Politico says Cyrus attacked Urban Outfitters for allegedly stealing craft designs, and then she took the company’s president to task for giving money to Rick Santorum in a surprisingly scathing series of posts on Twitter.

“IF WE ALLOW GAY MARRIAGE NEXT THING U KNOW PEOPLE WILL BE MARRYING GOLD FISH’ — Rick Santorum UO contributed $13,000 to this mans campaign” tweeted Cyrus, mocking Santorum for some earlier remarks regarding gay marriage.

She also wrote about Urban Outfitters and Santorum: “Not only do they steal from artists but every time you give them money you help finance a campaign against gay equality.”

I never thought I’d say this, but: Go, Miley Cyrus!

  1. A friend of mine works for her dad and has met her many times. He says she’s far smarter and more badass than anyone gives her credit for. I think this may be proof.

  2. Urban Outfitters has a long history of strange political behavior. In the run-up to the 2004 elections U O presented a line of t-shirts with “voting is for old people” screened on the front. This was a “rock the vote” year and the GOP were afraid that young voters would vote Dem. There was a movement to confuse the youth vote and deflate rock the vote. U O pulled the shirts after they created a lot of negativity towards the company. In the end, they claimed they were being ironic, but the CEO is a big GOP funder. I haven’t bought a product from them since.

  3. I remember seeing a clip of an interview with Britney Spears in Bowling for Columbine where she said something to the effect of “We should all just trust President Bush” and I was never able to jack off to her again. Thank you Miley, for letting a new generation of liberal teenagers continue to jerk off to the current biggest Disney popstar with a clearer conscience.

  4. I like it when some glimmer of hope from a manufactured, corporate pop star shows. Could she actually make good music some day?

  5. I had a thought: Rick Santorum’s first full name is “Richard”, right? Another diminutive of Richard is Dick, ergo:

    Dick Santorum…

    Also, good on ya Miley!

  6. @14 which part, the Santorum thing? or UO stealing other artists shit?

the distinction probably matters…. because all I got was that UO is sorta “copying” and/or misrepresenting itself or something kind of in a grey are.

not anything about their support of frothy candidates.

  7. From the link: “And, as PoliticsPA points out, “This is the second time in recent weeks that Santorum has popped up in an unlikely quarter of pop culture…”
