David Miller, who recently failed to make it through the primary in his run for City Council position 8, told supporters today on his blog that he will spend the remainder of the election season working to pass R-71. He also, graciously, asked his supporters not to help him retire his campaign debt (which was more than $6,000 as of the latest C4 reporting period), and instead give to the R-71 cause.

Here is the heart of his plea:

On November 3, we again have an opportunity to do what is right but on a statewide scale. We have an opportunity to affirm the vote of our elected State Legislators and vote yes on Referendum 71. This legislation makes the union between two gay people legally equivalent to the union of a man and woman. This is a basic legal right whose time has come, and I urge you to join me in supporting it.

I donโ€™t want you to just mark your ballot โ€œyesโ€ and leave it at that. I want you to join me in the campaign. I want to work with you to make sure what happened in California with Prop 8 doesnโ€™t happen in Washington. I want to work with you to create such a strong groundswell of support that we not only pass R71, we pass it big.

I’ve got a call into Miller to see just what his role will be with the Approve Referendum 71 campaign, and I’ll post the update when I hear back.

WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO ALL THE GREENIE WIMPS?

SOMEONE POSTED THE SIERRA CLUB IS NOT ENDORSING THE GAY SIDE, NOT THEIR ISSUE, GEEZ.

  2. @5 – is there a FB group for that?

actually, is there a FB group for African-Americans for that, and one for Latinos and one for multiculturals and one for …

expand your universe, don’t shrink it. make it easy. have picnics and go to theirs. do it now not later (you don’t have time to delay).

  3. @3, not that it matters but if you ask Brian from The Stranger he will tell you I said this is what I would be doing when we spoke on election night. In a letter mailed to supporters last week, I repeated it.

Maybe you’re just sensitive that Mallahan beat your guy to the punch by hours?

  4. @12 is being a cute troll. So to leave nothing to chance, let me remind everyone that R-71 will ask voters to reject or approve the domestic partnership law. Vote APPROVED on R-71 to preserve the domestic partnership law. Find out more at Washington Families Standing Together (WAFST.org).
