I just finished watching “The Sweet Smell of Success” and couldn’t help but think that Dan Savage is a modern real life version of J.J. Hunsecker…whose daily column of tidbits and gossip controlled an army of 60 million loyal readers.
Also every other line is quotable.
Example:
Sidney Falco to Rita: I some times get the impression you live in Starbright Park. This is life. Get used to it!
that ‘sweet smell’ is your nose up dans ass
Huh?
who is she and why should I care?

Hey, I’m across the street from that painting. So … what? You want me to go get it for you?
Is that Krannert Center at U of I? I can smell the sweet scent of high school theater conferences in the air.
Hey, totally random tangent, but the Playhouse at UW is up and running again. It looks good.
Dan, are you in Chambana-Urbaign? That’s my Kemma Mutter! Umm… Almond Nutter…. whatever. Do you know they used to have their own Onion, with local content merged in with the Madison version?
Oh. Dan was a theatre major at U of I; and also was here on Monday (i.e., when he took that picture). Had I had my druthers, I would’ve walked over and said ‘hi’. Or maybe just lurked and taken pictures. Oh well … Dan, you and Ang Lee deserve a place up on the “Wall of Old Male White Fame” in the union.
