This heaps shame, by association, on Siddhartha. Moreover, I have to express some surprise in that those I meet, if and whenever the topic ever comes to Homer, express interest and like in the Odyssey and are, more or less, completely indifferent or ignorant of the Iliad. The Odyssey might as well be a collection of adventure stories, with no clear plot tying the action together–really separate events occurring in separate locations with very little impact, beyond the elucidation of the character of Odysseus, upon the story as a whole. The Iliad, by contrast, is a masterpiece, well tied together and surprisingly offering a great example of organic unity, and even offering a glimpse of the drawbacks of the heroic ethos, while nevertheless celebrating its protagonists.
But I don’t see a bit of Russian literature in that list, which puts me better at ease. The man clearly has bad taste and prefers listing off supposedly important, big-name works to actually reading them.

I came here to post about a sad situation. I came to grieve for the people in Tucson today. I came to discuss a madman who is getting his just desserts by having his death plan foiled and is now facing a life behind bars at SuperMax. There are issues bigger than targeting, and what Jared was allegedly involved in may be one of them. Almost everyone now acknowledges that Jared was beyond mentally disturbed. He was NOT POLITICAL people! He didn’t believe in God and hated G. Bush…he reportedly had his psychotic break senior year of high school, going from a football player and musician to someone who literally scared other students. His college teacher had him removed from school. He rambled nonsensical statements…nothing political. Was a registered Independant who didn’t even vote. Most doctors are saying they believe him to be a true schizophrenic, as most schizophrenics break down in their late teens to mid twenties. The guy was told he could not come back to school unless he had a mental evaluation. He spent one night in an asylum. He should have been on meds or locked up but another one fell through the cracks. Just like the crazy VT shooter. If you all are looking to be angry at something, be angry at the absolute collapse of the mental help system. People used to get locked up for bizarre behavior..but the funding stopped decades ago and that is why we have people like that “So called” prophet who abducted poor Elizabeth Smart. I will ask this question again; how many people are killed by automobiles?? (another inanimate object btw) If more people had possessed guns on their persons that day, the killer would have been taken down much sooner, thus saving lives!
In my state, there is no place I cannot go without my gun (with the exception of a courthouse…and of course church) I take it into the grocery store, mall, and in my car. A little 5 dollar piece of paper gives me that right. I will never be a victim if I can at all help it and my Constitution allows me this privilege. If you guys don’t like your 2nd amendment, fight to have it removed…ha ha…I would love to see a country with only the bad guys and the government having firearms…brilliant!
