Some things you may not be aware of here in Seattle, America’s Nerd Capitol™ (yes I just made that up)!
Cafe Mox! Do you know of it? (maybe you saw this in last week’s Stranger?)
From the Stranger’s listings:
Card Kingdom is more than 7,000 square feet of gaming paradise (their description, not ours), and Cafe Mox is the attached bar and cafe, with sandwiches (mini grilled cheese!), salads, beer, wine, cider, and mead. They say you can bring pretty much any game in from the shop and try it out! Paradise, indeed.
There’s a rumor (JUST A RUMOR!) started by me and the Stranger Testing Department that there will be a Slog Happy there at some point. This is totally unconfirmed by anyone who actually makes these decisions.
In other important nerd gatherings: Are you aware of Girl Geek Con 2011?!
It’s happening SOON! October 8th & 9th! (Coincidentally if you find yourself at Cafe Mox you can buy a discounted pass to Girl Geek Con at Card Kingdom!)
From their website:
Who does GeekGirlCon support? GeekGirlCon focuses on women geeks of all ages, races, sexual orientations, gender identities, creeds, physical and mental abilities, and familial statues. While we do not actively market to male-identified geeks, we do not discriminate against them or discourage their support.
That’s right, boys, you can attend, too.

NERD HAPPY NERD HAPPY NERD HAPPY
Also, for our northern cousins in Everett:

I’m on a panel at GGC!
Love Cafe Mox. And would be thrilled if there were a Slog Happy there.
so that description makes it seem we can try any game from the store in the bar – w/o game purchase? Or instead does it mean once we buy a game we can drink and be merry with our new game.
I knew nothing of this, ty Mary.
Also, you do have some pull with the people who make the decisions for Unofficial Slog Happys (aka whoeverthefuck) so I say the next month that there’s not an official Happy, Cafe Mox it is.
#5 – They let you test-drive games. No purchase necessary.
Please do a Slog Happy there.
With the college degree rates per capita and number of universities around here, combined with all the awesome transplants, I’d say nerd capital is a fitting title. (note: education is not required for nerd-dom, it’s just supporting evidence)
I’m glad they don’t discriminate against girls with familial statues as I’m a descendant of Rodin
Good fucking luck. every time we have tried to go to Cafe Mox, it is jam packed with gamers, all gaming, not drinking, not eating… NEVER a table or chair open.
If this Nerd Happy thing doesn’t happen, I will be very upset.
Would love a slog happy here, as I frequent it quite often.
The place is really well designed, both the pub and the game shop. Not cramped. The bar has hooks for coats and purses, each table has a ledge behind the seats to set things when the table itself is occupied with board games or cards.
Only problem is that it’s become so popular on weekend evenings it’s difficult to get a seat and turnover is not quick.
@10:
You can reserve tables for large parties so a slog happy is totally possible.
Also they usually occur on weekdays when critical mass isn’t quite so bad.
Woo! I am part of the staff putting on geekgirlcon, thank you so much for the mention! Also you can buy passes to the con at Card Kingdom/Cafe Mox! Now there is a nerdy two birds with one stone for you 😀
On Saturday,Sept 17, 2011 at 11:30am, you can see what GeekGirlCon is about at Cafe Mox. YAHHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What Baconcat said.
I had no idea this thing/place existed.
MEAD?!? That is one nerdy drink.
Yes and yes. But nice of you to mention them, Mary.
Why on earth would you want to miniaturize a grilled cheese sandwich?
