Zoologists find a lot of hate packed in the center of a relationship between one chimp and Swedish society.
A male chimpanzee in a Swedish zoo planned hundreds of stone-throwing attacks on zoo visitors, according to researchers.
Keepers at Furuvik Zoo found that the chimp collected and stored stones that he would later use as missiles.
Further, the chimp learned to recognise how and when parts of his concrete enclosure could be pulled apart to fashion further projectiles.
There has been scant evidence in previous research that animals can plan for future events.
Science might have stumbled upon the origins of terrorism. For the chimp, it is at the basic level of stones; for humans, it is now at the level of airplanes. But between these technological extremes, is there a common core or continuum? Is the hate in the ape the same as the hate in Atta? If so, then a genealogy of ressentiment would best explain (best breakdown) the dark nature of this profound (or ancient) form of hate.
