Former Titans/Ravens quarterback Steve McNair was found shot to death earlier today in Nashville. From the NYT:

Steve McNair, the former N.F.L. quarterback whose Air McNair nickname gave short shrift to his scrambling ability, died Saturday, apparently in a double shooting, according to the Nashville police.

For 11 years, Steve McNair was the franchise quarterback for the Tennessee Titans. He played his last two seasons for the Baltimore Ravens.

McNair, 36, and an unidentified woman were found dead with gunshot wounds Saturday afternoon inside a condominium in downtown Nashville, the police said.

โ€œThe N.F.L. has lost a brother, and I believe black quarterbacks have lost a pioneer,โ€ said Jets linebacker Bart Scott, who played with McNair in Baltimore. The greatest stretch of his career may have occurred near the

  1. Another sign of the illegal alien invasion of america – the play by play is in a foreign language!

This – and Barack Hussein Obama’s presidency – are a reason why armed insurrection against high taxes is inevitable.

  2. Lord Basil;

    I strongly suspect
you are not a True Believer
    in Armed Insurrection
    against the tide of
    Socialism sweeping
    our Beleaguered Republic.

    maybe second,
    right after

  3. So it looks like Dan Savage is going to have an even tougher time now convincing people that monogamy is not realistic. Most of the blog sites I’ve been reading about this tragedy are filled with comments calling him an adulterer and that if he had just been “faithful” to his wife he’d still be alive. This even though (I get the impression from what I’ve read) his wife knew about the girlfriend, which implies that he and wife were no longer romantically involved. Or maybe they had an open relationship. Whatever the case it wasn’t adultery that killed him, it was a psycho bitch.

  4. This is a shock, but the details given as well as the things left unsaid have made it clear that a) this girl with him was a mistress and b) she evidently flipped out and killed him.

Gunshot wounds are the one injury he couldn’t shake off

  5. So… A cheating spouse and a skanky, 20 year old home wrecker are dead and we are calling this a tragedy?

The only tragic part about this is the damage he inflicted on his wife and kids before getting killed.

No matter what he gave back to his community, what a gifted athlete he may have been or how nice of a guy, this is the legacy he passes onto his kids.

    Well done.

  6. To be fair, I get the feeling that infidelity among professional athletes is the norm and not the exception. You’d have to be completely fucking bonkers to be a woman and marry one of these guys and expect anything less. Right or wrong, but to get involved with a guy who works out all day and works on the road in a sexually charged atmosphere.

    COME ON PEOPLE!

It’s simple sexual economics and supply and demand. The same can be said for rock stars, movie stars, politicians, etc. etc.

And I’m getting a little bored with it, and leave it to sexually frustrated, embittered Americans who aren’t getting any to pee on someone elses success.

I guess, wnen I was living in Oregon. I have never come across more shrewd and oppressive bitches in my entire life, who reveled in passionless stable relationships. At the same time, I have never seen so many adult and strip shops in my entire life. Most of the town outside of the University area looked a slightly cleaner version of North Aurora.

At least Steve McNair succeeded in social monogamy, and if everyone is on the same page, I guess that’s enough for me.

did you read you’re own post?

“This even though (I get the impression from what I’ve read) his wife knew about the girlfriend, which implies that he and wife were no longer romantically involved. Or maybe they had an open relationship.”

    The “Open Relationship” killed him!

    Because “Open Relationships”,
    contrary to Dan’s EXPERT OPINION,
    are contrary to human nature.
And sooner or later one of the parties is going to snap and go postal.

  8. @8 … I think neither “open” or “closed” relationships are align with human nature. I think they compromises between human nature and modern society.

Human nature? Perhaps some scattered hunter gatherers where relationships were started young, and lasted only 20 years tops BECAUSE THAT’S WHEN PEOPLE DIED!

Living in a small clan, people were exposed to the elaborate social network that is modern society, and weren’t alive to have quality longer lives.

Compared to what was initially human nature, people live like gods.

Instead of hunting, gathering, and protecting our offspring from disease and preditors, we have the luxury to dwell on our feelings and desires that have become greater than our basic needs of food and shelter.

So I say, let it the fuck go … there are 6 billion people on this planet and the odds of meeting someone who shares your ideals and philosophy in the 60 plus years of relative health and prosperity that you are likely to receive in this country and lifetime vs. any other point in history are significantly greater than they were perhaps in any other point in history.
