CNN:
Sen. John McCain said Sunday he would not necessarily support his former running mate if she chose to run for president.
Speaking to ABC’s “This Week,” McCain was asked whether Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin could count on his support. “I can’t say something like that. We’ve got some great other young governors. I think you’re going to see the governors assume a greater leadership role in our Republican Party,” he said, citing Governors Tim Pawlenty of Minnesota and Jon Huntsman of Utah.
McCain said he has “the greatest appreciation for Governor Palin and her family, and it was a great joy to know them. She invigorated our campaign.”
Pawlenty was one of the folks that McCain passed over for VP—along with Joe Lieberman and former PA gov Tom Ridge.

McCain said he has “the greatest appreciation for Governor Palin and her family, and it was a great joy to know them. “

“Was a great joy.” “WAS,” not “has been.”
His attempts to be diplomatic are as endearingly clumsy as they always used to be before things in the campaign got super weird.
@ 1 – exactly. “It was a great joy to know them” = not on our Christmas card list.
@2: “it was a great joy to know them” = playing dumb if he sees her in public, then running away when she turns her back.
[Governor] Blagojevich for President.
I might die of shock, if I haven’t been hauled to Gitmo by then, if the Governor of Utah ever became President.
Good Morning Dan,
McCain’s comments aren’t at all surprising. That’s like asking you if you’re going to vote for Pres. Obama in 2012. 4 years is an eternity. Anything can happen.
You might change your mind. McCain might too.
Thank god we missed THAT bullet.
I’m with #6. McCain had every reason to despise Bush, and word is that he does loathe the man. But he fell in line in 2000 and 2004 and ultimately served as Bush’s butt boy in the Senate.
If Palin somehow gets nominated in 2012, at worst, McCain will say and do nothing. Most likely, he’ll support her.
This is assuming McCain is even alive in 4 to 8 years. The guy’s old. He’s in good health now, but when you get to a certain age, things can go downhill fast.
Ha! “We’ve got some great other young governors.” That’s pretty much all the GOP has left. When you’ve been decimated about everyone else, of course the surviving members will lead the party.
This doesn’t surprise me at all. McCain is not a good conservative, he probably would not support any good conservative.
After the Marxist tax-hiking Democrat Party puts the country through four years of FDR Depression Redux, a true tax-cutting conservative will be needed to start repairing the damage done by liberalism.
Americans will be longing for political leadership capable of ending the economic malaise and widespread suffering.
Socialism is not change.
Hey, Basil @ #11…
Where is this “Marxist” Democratic Party you write about? I have looked and looked for Marxists in the Democratic Party but can’t find any.
“Tax-hiking”? What you really mean is “restoring a fair taxation policy that favors WORK over WEALTH”. Taxes will go up for those who have enjoyed dramatic tax decreases during the Bush-Cheney years.
You must have read a different American history book than I studied, but wasn’t it FDR who led us OUT of the Great Depression? (And might I add that the Great Depression was the result of too little regulation, sorta like we have now?)
Socialism indeed is change, and a change we sorely need for our nation. Too bad, though, that socialism isn’t part of President Obama’s plans. We sure could use some good, old-fashioned socialism about right now!! You know… like they have in Canada and Western Europe…. whose currencies are kicking the crap outta the US dollar right now, aren’t they?
I wonder if the entire McCain campaign was a secret plot to just totally fuck over the GOP, and to get back at Bush for so totally fucking him over back in 04.
Seriously. How else can you explain Sarah Palin?
He didn’t mention Bobby Jindal?
He passed me over for the VP slot too. I’m pretty sure I was on the short list.
