Finally, some bipartisanship on an important issue:

The House overwhelmingly voted in favor of passing the Captive Primate Safety Act on Tuesday, which prohibits people from buying or transporting primates across state lines to keep as pets. This legislation amended the Lacey Act, which had only applied to wildlife and fish.

  1. It won’t do any good. Eventually our ape overlords will run this planet and humans will be hunted like animals and unable to speak.

I saw a film about it a while ago.

  2. @1 – there are those tiny little monkeys that can be trained to be service animals, primarily for quadraplegics, and maybe those 95 were confusing pets and service animals. maybe the wording was blurry or something.

i’m not in general a fan of a captive anything, especially an animal as intelligent as a monkey, but for some reason i kindof love this service monkey thing. they pick up your stuff if you drop it on the floor – cell phones are a lifeline when you are paralyzed – also they get your dinners from the freezer and put them in the microwave and get stuff off the high shelves for you. then when they’re not working they get to just hang around like a regular housepet. my only real issue is the whole “bred in captivity” thing. aside from that it’s a sweet win-win.

but other than these guys i agree ~ anything larger than a typical housecat, and anything that’s not a service animal should be outlawed, definitely!
