If you want to call it a victory, that is.
This morning Susan Hutchison called a press conference to announce that she had the support of two more nominal Democrats, Lt. Governor Brad Owen and former Seattle Mayor Wes Uhlman. Because, what else does she have to call a press conference about except to add two more names to her 14 listed endorsements? According to the Times, certainly not a plan…yet.
The problem is, she didn’t even respect the Democratic Party enough to properly label it while announcing that two of its members would vote for her (well, maybe only one will vote for her since Owen lives in distant Shelton). The P-I reported that Hutchison remarked, “Now I am adding two more Democrat supporters.”
I happen to agree with Hendrik Hertzberg’s notion that the word “Democrat” is a noun, not an adjective, and making reference to a member of the “Democrat Party” or a “Democrat supporter” is a slur, and a petty one at that. Its widespread use among Republicans was perfected by the hyper-partisan likes of GOP pollster Frank Luntz, Newt Gingrich, and George W. Bush. Now, apparently, Susan Hutchison feels compelled to do the same.

Before that, it was lovable GOP rascal Joe McCarthy who said “Democrat,” so he could emphasize “RAT”.
When will we hear about Constantine’s Republican endorsements?
Sorry joykiller, there just aren’t that many Republicans in King County. I’d take Constantine’s overwhelming support among elected officials in King County over Hutchison’s support from far-flung “Democrats” from Pierce County, Mason County, and Indiana — any day.
Yeah, because Rob McKenna did win King County after all (as did Sam Reed, Dan Satterburg, Sue Rahr, John Crieghton, etc)

Yeah, there aren’t any Republicans on the County Council — you know, the one Constantine’s been on for years. And there isn’t a Republican prosecutor. So yes, I accept your implication that Constantine would have Republican supporters but for the lack of Republicans in King County.

Seriously, is this what passes for political analysis/commentary on the Slog? Some of the planet’s richest people live in our neighborhoods and they’re closing schools and firing teachers, more and more people are losing jobs and homes, and more and more people are dying for lack of health care and the best the Stranger can do is discuss which johns are paying for which political whores?
@13: And the Republicans have done what to support education? And Republican de-regulation of financial markets is the major reason people are losing jobs and homes. And the Republican Party is fighting health care for all. Yeah, those Democrats are a real problem.
