Starbucks will give you a tall cup of coffee after you’ve filled out your ballot.

Rewarding people for meeting their civic responsibilities with a dose of stimulants is, frankly, a little strange. Following the election is addictive enough. But if it gets people to vote–even as a shameless marketing ploy–that’s fine with me.

  1. Back in the 1800s, before secret ballots were common, it was quite normal for party hacks to give voters a shot of whiskey in exchange for their vote.

  2. How about Starbucks bringing some free coffee to the people that volunteer as election officials at the polls? That is where I want my coffee. I won’t be able to make it to Starbucks, I can’t leave until the polls close.

  3. #2 I work at Starbucks – I’ll bring you some coffee. Which polling place are you working at? I’ll even bring you a soy Pumpkin Spice Latte with no whip if that is what you want. i get out of work at 9am tomorrow. i’ll come right over.

  4. No thanks. The last thing I’ll need tomorrow is coffee. The likelihood of a stroke is already going to be high, and caffeine will surely put me right over the edge.
