Yesterday, “Chastity” felt like the world of joblessness was closing in on her. Today she’s cheering about a break that came her way.

Chastity3.jpgI have good news!!

The U.S. Census called me! In about a month, I’ll be working for them as an enumerator for $17+ an hour. It’ll be short term (eight weeks), but this is a huge relief. And, things are still looking positive for the other job. Apparently the darkest hour is the hour before the phone rings.

  1. Chasity – I’m happy for you. Cheers!

Barky – why comment about something stupid like font, vs, the good news for this person? whatever.

  2. As a single dude, I’m feeling under represented by the US Government…miscounted if you will.

Please send Chastity to my apartment, zip:98030 to “take a poll”.

  3. Hooray for Chastity! I will have a drink to that. By the way, I was a “follow-up enumerator” in 1990, and it involved going to the creepiest of neighborhoods to try to talk people through filling out the forms who hadn’t done it the first time because 1) they were suspicious of the government, 2) they were criminals, 3) they didn’t speak english or 4) they were renting and didn’t think it applied to them (frequent excuse!). I look forward to reading Chastity’s accounts of this experience.

  4. Congrats Chastity

I’m very happy to hear from you. I’ve been unemployed the last few months myself and know very well those feelings of despair and hopelessness. Just like you I got that wonderful phone call today!

I wish you the best and the same to all the other people out there right now looking for jobs.

  5. Thanks so much to you all for your lovely comments yesterday and today! Under ordinary circumstances, I would love to come to Slog Happy tonight, but I’ll be in class. Rain check until next month?
