(A) The amount of contributions reported by Mike McGinn since August 10, the date of the last full summary report due to the Seattle Ethics and Elections Commission.

(B) The amount of contributions reported by Joe Mallahan since that date.

(C) The size of the check that Joe Mallahan just wrote to his campaign.

(D) The amount of contributions reported by both Mallahan and McGinn combined since August 10.

Answer’s after the jump.

(D) It is the combined amount of reported contributions given to mayoral candidates Joe Mallahan and Mike McGinn since August 10. Mallahan has brought in $23,765, and McGinn $15,726.

I recognize that it is a particularly unofficial time to take note of contributions, especially given that all of those reported numbers came in during the politically exciting nine days between the C4 report and the primary. But McGinn never showed a ton of fundraising prowess and, frankly, neither did Mallahan outside of his own cash. So taking note of their financial situations will be an important part of the next month or so for oddsmakers, even as the political world otherwise takes a bunch of naps. Also worth noting is that Mallahan was $54,000 in the hole on August 10, while McGinn still had $13,000 in the bank.

In other news, Mallahan hasn’t written his campaign any new checks since the $200,000 he gave his campaign for the primary (it was a high price, but it worked). Besides, his spokesman told me earlier this month that Mallahan (at the behest of his wife) had no intention of giving any significant amount more to the campaign coffers. Nor should he need to do that against McGinn. If Ed Murray jumps into the race, it could be a different story.

  1. The McGinn campaign is running on chicken feed. And, somehow, that is a virtue, or something. Is the Sierra Club broke, or, do the rich white people dislike him too?

Most of the time in America you back your man with the cash – note – Obama set records for fund raising, OUTSPENT/OUTRAISED the rich Republicans.

    So, where is the beef?

  2. Ed,

Take note, every voter in my office of twelve is going to go for you.Nobody is really comfortable with the learning curve the other two will be on.

It was mentioned that you cut your teeth at city hall, once working for the powerhouse council member, Martha Cho.

    You got ours Ed.

    Clyde

  3. All this talk of a write in campaign make me glad I don’t live in Seattle. It seems to me like he’d split the D vote with McGinn, leaving Mallahan the winner. It’s exactly this type of situation that the top two primary is meant to avoid.

  4. @1 – Seattle is too important to be left to amateurs – amateurs like Ed Murray, who refused to listen to the voters in his city and in his district who rejected a tunnel. Murray didn’t seem to think Seattle needed his “leadership” before the primary – why should it need it now? I’m voting for the proven professional who has now beat the Nickles machine three times in a row – Mike McGinn.

  5. If Ed Murray puts his name up for a write in I will vote for him.

Maybe McGinn would get my vote if he had issues beyond being against the tunnel? McGinn can win my vote still but he has to develop some coherent ideas beyound “Tunnel Bad, Surface Option Good”

  6. If Ed Murray wanted to run for mayor, he should have entered the primary like everyone else. I like that McGinn isn’t entrenched in the halls of power already.

  7. Mallahan raised more money than any other candidate other than Nickels and almost twice the amount raised by McGinn (total of about 160K). That tells me that he is either a more aggressive fundraiser than McGinn or was viewed as more viable than McGinn throughout most of the primary season. Of course, McGinn got a huge in-kind contribution from the Stranger when you shamelessly turned your newspaper bins into campaign signs for McGinn. Poor Mike, what will his biggest supporter do if Ed jumps in?

  8. Most people work for Mike McGinn for free.

Bringing their own veggie snacks and drinks.

So Mike will never win this “measure” since he doesn’t have to BUY his support.
