  1. The look of a man who’s entire career is on the line. Bet anything he was thinking of the failed rescue mission that put a stake in Carter.

  2. hey, why no mention of the fact that our very own USS carl vinson carried out the burial duty? i feel oddly proud.

  3. @2: Well, he had been standing and pacing, but one of the other folks told him he was making them nervous, so he sat and realized how tired he was, and had one of those fatigue moments where you hunch over and sigh. Right after this pic, he shook his head, apologized and started pacing again.

Or: WTF? How are we supposed to know? Why does it matter?

  4. Only thing that could make this better would be that prima facia evidence of anti-president Bush’s direct involvement in 9/11 be found among the documents the SEALs confiscated.

  5. Remember when Obama took office and one of the first things he accomplished was to o.k. the shooting of pirates that had captured the crew of Mearsk Alabama. It killed the pirates and saved the crew. He understands the importance of his position as CIC and how that works in a command stucture. Best president in sixty years.

  6. Cute girl in the back alert.

All those tall guys should have had the courtesy to let her squeeze to the front for a better look.

  7. I love how they sent the CGI Taiwanese version of this to Bush and Cheney and how long it took before either realized it wasn’t the actual vid.

  8. I wonder what that pixelated image in front of Hilary is?

Hilary made me very angry during the primaries, but this picture makes me love her even more than I already have given how she’s performed as SoS. The hand over her mouth showing how difficult the stuff she’s viewing is – she’s a tough broad and a human, too.

  9. @5, I bet it is UAV, AC-130 or other recon bird video. Still just as awesome in IR, I assure you. I think the helmet cams are solid-state with no broadcasting ability.

  10. Obama’s body language to me says focused, but nervous. Like he’s trying to contain nervous energy. He’s leaning forward, and staring very intently at what he is watching. I think he was likely pretty alert, but worried about what the outcome would be, which seems pretty understandable given the circumstances. He’s probably leaning forward, while most of the other people are slightly more distanced from the action, because he feels more responsible for the outcome, whatever it is.

  11. “Hey, do you think any of that news is on these computers…my kid says you can look up current events on them.”

  12. @27: And it probably started with just a few people and more and more people got drawn in as it got more serious. In the middle of something like that, you don’t up and move rooms, you deal.

  13. I wonder if that photo was taken just as the helecopter’s engine had stalled and it came down with a crunch in the courtyard. Everyone thinking, “oh shit, shades of Dessert One.”

  14. @24. The Situation Room in the WH is tiny. Pretty much every room in the White House is smaller than you’d think it would be (and the Rose Garden too).

  15. 23/24

yeah and what’s with the ugly decorum? why is everyone apparently using PC laptops instead of Macs? I mean wtf?! this is serious shit here.

  16. @19 – on the Flickr page it says that they pixellated a classified document that was visible.

And yeah, everything else you said.

  17. I wish they’d get together and watch the video feeds of drones blowing innocent men, women, and children to bloody pieces. Maybe some small part of them that’s still decent and compassionate would recognize the evil futility of their actions over the last 2 years and they’d finally stop it.

Then again, maybe that’s why they don’t watch those videos, after all. Can’t have their consciences interfering with Obama’s chances in 2012.

  18. Nice. What a dramatic looking staged photo-op. This room full of war criminals have surely seen and ordered far worse. Perhaps their serious and concerned faces express how they feel about losing thier favorite CIA assett. Whether he was already dead long ago or killed yesterday doesn’t matter. It’s time for a new patsy boogeyman for the next false flag op.
