I’m going to be on KUOW’s The Conversation sometime after 1 p.m. today, answering the question: What Was the Most Overlooked News Story in 2008?
I know what my answers will be (they want both local and national overlooked stories). But what are your answers? If they’re better than mine, and if I get a chance, I’ll try to mention some on the air.

Sarah Palin’s Medical Records/Mystery Child? I know Andrew Sullivan has lost much sleep over it…
Marlee Ginter’s goat fuckery.
The lead up to and the cause of the economic collapse.
#1: Accusations without proof are not exactly good news. That’s not saying it’s true or isn’t true, though.
The apocalypse.
The Memphis policeman who was caught on video beating up and macing Duanna Johnson, a transsexual prostitute, in a police station with no physical provocation. Also, the cop is white and Duanna is black.
When I first saw the story (on Slog) I thought it was going to be major news – like the Rodney King video – but I never happened to come across any other coverage of it. If you actively look for the story (i.e. googling it), it’s brought up on some queer rights oriented blogs, but not on black rights or general sources.
1 – Comrades Bush and Cheney admitting to their war crimes.
and
2 – Nobody dying when the Viaduct fell due to constant freezing and thawing during Snowstorm 2008 (ok, this is a week early, but it’ll be FUN!)
i still think the passing of Prop 1 was hugely overlooked due to Obama, Gregoire, etc. something we’ve tried for forty years and we finally did it. come on people, this is a huge deal.
The passage of the adoption bill in Arkansas got completely overshadowed by Prop 8. It prevents ALL unmarried persons from being a foster or adoptive parent. That means all the gays, lesbians, cohabitating straights, widowed grandparents, and single aunties and uncles of children who’s parents have passed away or are unfit cannot adopt children in that state. This bill passing is a warning to get ready single straights….the Bible Thumpers are after us next!

Sarah Palin’s involvement with the Alaskan Independent Party should’ve been more publicized. Thankfully Obama won regardless of what the campaign said, but her connection with that strange group will sink her 2012 dreams before it even starts.
