Our own Anthony Hecht just downloaded all the Beck backgrounds from Glenn Beck’s website. Here they are:

Let’s see…we’ve got Balloon-blowing Beck, Chalkboard-wielding Beck, Scientist Beck, Nazi Beck, Uncle Sam Beck, Flannel-wearing Manly Boulder-heaving Hulk Beck…wait, isn’t there a Glenn Beck missing from this list of Glenn Becks? In the detail of this vertical view of Glenn Becks, it seems as though #5 has been deleted.

Oh, yeah! Gun-toting Glenn Beck! That’s weird: Anthony says he got every single Glenn Beck from the website…where’d he go? Say, you don’t think Glenn Beck scrubbed an image of himself holding a gun from his website, do you? Whyever would he do that for? Maybe because he finally realized that violent images promoted by political figureheads can provoke the mentally unhinged (who make up Beck’s primary constituency) to commit violent acts? Or would that be expecting too much of Beck?

  1. It’s not because he recognizes it as potentially provocative/inciting to any of the mentally unstable among his own followers, it’s to protect himself from mentally unstable liberal-pinko-commie-fascist-socialist regime who just won’t accept that guns solve everything and are looking for every little reason to attack him.

  2. Or because you, me and everyone we know on the internet were pointing and laughing at it yesterday, and if he hadn’t removed it we’d all be posting about that instead?

Commenter Fish Wrench Asteroid noticed it was gone within a half-hour of your posting about it yesterday.

  3. I hate the guy but whatever the reason he did it, he did it. Isn’t that what we want them to do? Tone it down?

Now quit making me defend Glenn Beck. It burns a little.

  4. Can one of Dan’s at-risk youth make these into cut-out images that I can shop into other photos and create a new photobomb meme, ala Sad Keanu? We could have a contest!

  5. @4- I’m not sure how you’d define it, but I see a difference between toning it down and playing dumb.

Someone who tones it down, usually, has learned something and made a decision to change their behavior. One who plays dumb is usually just hoping to avoid being caught/ punishment and will go right back to doing what they do when no one’s looking again.

Given that distinction, I’d like confirmation that they’re toning it down, not playing dumb. Without a direct statement/ explanation and based on past observations, I think many of us are assuming he’s playing dumb.

  6. He takes the image down, then tells his listeners/watchers that the image was just liberal photoshopping and that it never existed.

    They, of course, believe him.

  7. This will certainly burnish Beck’s image as a responsible citizen, at least until the next wave of politically-motivated boulder-crushing incidents puts him in the hotseat again.

  8. @1 you mean, “Beck peddling douchebag.”

@9 off-topic but your flickr pic of your art, I love the bridges! Where do you recommend around town to find similar?

  9. Why thank you dear. Unfortunately, you can’t find good sofa art around here anymore for anything approaching a decent price. You might want to try Tacoma…..
