Seattle Police are looking for suspects in a fatal early morning shooting in the Central District.
According to SPD spokesman Jeff Kappel, just before 2AM police received a call about gunfire near 26th Ave and E Cherry St. When officers arrived, they found a 20-year-old man lying on the sidewalk, suffering from several gunshot wounds.
Medics attempted to treat the man, but it appears he died at the scene.
Police have not released any information about suspects or whether the shooting is gang related.
This is the fifth homicide in Seattle since the beginning of the year, and the second this weekend.
On Saturday, police also arrested a 21-year-old man for investigation into the murder of a 71-year-old West Seattle woman who was found dead in her home on Friday.

@69 et al. I lived in rural West Virginia for a while. It had as high a crime rate as I’ve ever seen. Drugs and moonshine, prostitution, robbery, stabbings, domestic violence, shootings — the whole nine yards. One thing the truly poor counties didn’t have? Law enforcement. No tax base means no money for cops (plus the locals don’t particularly like cops so they don’t demand them.)
This means that a lot of that crime doesn’t show up as arrest statistics. People up in the hills don’t call the cops when something happens, they “handle it themselves.” But after living in inner-city neighborhoods and living in the sticks, I can assure you that the illusion that poor rural people are less prone to committing crimes is just that, an illusion. Their crimes are just more likely to happen off-the-grid, as it were.

An Aguanga man with three wives and 19 children was sentenced to seven consecutive life terms in prison this morning for torturing seven of his children in one of Riverside County’s most heinous cases of mass child abuse.
Mansa Musa Muhummed, 55, was convicted last summer of 12 counts of felony child endangerment, four counts of spousal abuse and two counts of false imprisonment. Muhummed will first serve a sentence of 16 years, 8 months for the non-torture convictions before beginning the seven life terms.
During his six-week trial, many of Muhummed’s children testified they were beaten with an oar and forced to go days without food. They also testified they had to use buckets for toilets and eat their own vomit or feces.
Muhummed was also found guilty of forcing two of his three wives to live in a garage with no heat, no air conditioning and no running water.

I strongly disagree that race alone should allow police to stop and question people on the street, but if he thinks that race alone is a good enough reason, then he should say so and then explain the good points and the bad points of such a policy.

The victim in the CD shooting was 26 year old Tyrone Love. While it may be a cliche in most cases, he really was one of the good guys. No record, not a gang banger, not a drug dealer, not prone to stupidity. He was a volunteer at the YMCA and other youth services. He was respected and loved by many, without reservation for his wonderful heart and his time spent trying to keep the kids in the hood out of trouble. Word on the street is that he was confronted by hoodlums at the AM/PM, he tried to walk away and they shot him dead. Witnesses report a Maroon Caprice with spoke rims was the getaway vehicle.
Tyrone is the son of a co-worker of mine. She is not in today because I am sure she is out-of-her-mind with grief. Tyrone and his mother are African American, but I don’t see the connection- violence comes in all colors. I met Tyrone once, maybe twice when his mother brought him into the office on a career day. And, if Tyrone is anything like his mom, then I am sure he was the warmest, kindest, respectful, and genuine person you could ever meet. I am not a parent, but my heart breaks thinking about the grief Tyrone’s mother must be going through…
