Joaquin Phoenix was recently videotaped rapping:

Suddenly it occurs to me that if Jim Morrison was still alive, he’d probably have released a rap album too. Should we start a death watch?

  1. i mean to say that just because an actor or various and sundry old people decide to release some horrible music, a genre is not dead.

altho maybe you meant Joaquin Phoenix’s career is dead, in which case I spoke too soon. But I assumed you meant hip-hop is dead because that’s the “cool” thing to say these days.

  3. is this real? i mean really now, how can someone who has spent the past 2 decades in the public eye be so completely lacking in self-awareness? how could anyone think this is anything other than a really, really terrible idea?

my theory is this is for some sort of sascha-cohen-meets-spinal-tap-type project. nobody is this fucking dumb.

  4. he’s working on a documentary about becoming a rapper with casey affleck. ???
hopefully, he’ll turn last year’s coke-fueled soliloquy about frogs jumping out of his beard into a rap. (on the red carpet…oscars? golden globes?)

  5. When a wealthy celebrity shells out money to promote their own secondary talent, nobody who knows better will ever tell them that they suck. Producers, sound engineers, recording studios … they know the scoop, but it would be foolish to give up the income.

  6. Vincent Gallo’s album ‘When’ on Warp is excellent. Don’t follow the comparison. Still sign Phoenix up. He’d make a great addition to any hippie-hop label out there. They better hurry up and sign him tho cause Diddy saw dude rap and saw the second coming of Biggie Smalls.
