CROCODILE CELEBRATES TWO YEAR ANNIVERSARY WITH NEW INSTALLATION FROM ARTIST DEREK ERDMAN

Seattle, WA, April 12, 2011 โ€” The Crocodile will celebrate its second anniversary on April 20, 2011, with a new installation of paintings from artist Derek Erdman. Entitled โ€œThe Alligator, The Crocodile, Laughs, Lies & Some Great Things of The State of Washington,โ€ the show features previously unseen work from the artist.

โ€œItโ€™s the fruits of a discovery process of someone new to the city, and not really sure how they feel about it,โ€ said Erdman, a recent transplant from Chicago. โ€œIโ€™ve been in Seattle for seven months now and, while the people are wonderful, Iโ€™m having a hard time with the rusty, gray, muddy weather.โ€

The show features Seattle landmarks, iconic Northwest figures, and a selection of artists that have played at the Crocodile since its 2009 re-opening.

โ€œItโ€™s an honor to be part of the Crocโ€™s history,โ€ Erdman said. โ€œItโ€™s one of those places that people all over the world know about. Every time Iโ€™m there, I see someone take a picture of the sign out front, which is pretty neat. There must be thousands of pictures of that sign, and it doesnโ€™t even say Nirvana on it.โ€

Erdmanโ€™s work, which will hang in the main showroom, joins the Crocodileโ€™s permanent installation of photographs from Charles Peterson. The collections offer two striking viewpoints of the city, and its culture.

โ€œItโ€™s really important to us that the Crocodile showcases an eclectic mix of genres, whether onstage or on our walls,โ€ explained Publicist Kerri Harrop, who coordinated both exhibits.

โ€œThe Alligator, The Crocodile, Laughs, Lies & Some Great Things of The State of Washingtonโ€ will open with a public reception Wednesday, April 20, from 6:00 to 9:00 pm. The artist will be in attendance.

  1. Can I just go on record as saying that Derek Erdman’s writing and visual art leave me completely bored? I fail to understand why anyone pays him anything.
