Via Slog commenter IGUB: While Dr. Jeff Owens is preaching (hate), at least one of his kids is preying (on kids)…

A 22-year-old Martinsburg man charged last year with having sex with two teenage girls in Berkeley County has agreed to a plea offer from the county prosecutor’s office. Jeremiah Daniel Owens pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual assault charges from an eight-count indictment handed up in October 2007 that charged him with sexual assault and sexual abuse against two girls, ages 15 and 13, and that stemmed from separate incidents earlier that year…. According to a previous report, the mother of the 13-year-old, whose name will not be published to protect her identity, said her daughter met Owens at the Shenandoah Bible Baptist Church in Martinsburg where Owens’ father is the pastor.

Dr. Jeff Owens’ book Character Lessons for Children is available for sale now.

  1. I said this in the other thread….but I hope that this doesn’t become an indictment against the whole state of West Virginia. We have our assholes, to be sure, but I think we also have a surprising progressive streak (coming from battles against mine bosses) as well.

  2. And he would have gotten away with it too if it weren’t for you meddling kids!

Seriously though, that’s a quick turnaround. Nice detective work.

  3. The last paragraph of the article is priceless:

Owens was sentenced to three years probation in September 2004 after pleading guilty to three counts of possession of stolen property following a string of burglaries in Indiana, for which he had been charged with burglary and theft. In December 2004, a Fayette County, Ky., grand jury dismissed rape charges against Owens because of insufficient evidence after he had been charged in November of that year with having sex with a 14-year-old girl at a school in Lexington where he worked as a janitor.

So, from 2004-2007 we have three rape charges (2 guilty) and 3 charges of burglary and theft (downgraded to possession of stolen property). Maybe Dad’s so full of hate for other people’s sons and daughters because of the guilt from not parenting his own son right.

  4. Since it wasn’t gay sex, it’s probably okay with Dear Old Dad. I wish I could now put a “” tag, but I don’t think I’m kidding.

  5. @6, I’m sure he tried his very very best as a father… but the whipping hand and the lashing tongue just plumb wore out. He had to save some stamina for Sundays and the pulpit.

  6. I’ve heard some evidence that correlates pedophilia with not being exposed to enough porn in adolescence. So that might explain a few of these.

  7. Man Sentenced for Sexual Assault – Martinsburg – A Martinsburg man charged last year with having sex with two teenage girls in Berkeley County was sentenced Friday morning by Circuit Court Judge Christiopher C Wilkes.

Last month Jeremiah Daniel Owens agreed to a plea offer from the country prosecutor’s office.

Owens pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual assault (counts one and six) of an indictment, said Greg K Jones, as assistant prosecutor for Berkely County.

Owens was indicted in October 2007 by the Berkeley County grand jury.

According to Jones, Owens was sentenced to two one-to-five-year prison terms to be served consecutively. He was ordered to pay $10,180.03 in restitution to the two victims and the crime victims compensation fund.

When released from prison, Owens would have a 10-year period of supervised release and will have to be a registered sex offender for the rest of his life, according to Jones.

Owens was arrested for allegedly engaging in sexual activity with a 13-year-old and 15-year-old in separate incidents.

The mother of the 13-year-old, whose name will not be published to protect her identity, said her daughter met Owens at the Shenandoah Bible Baptist Church in Martinsburg where Owens’ father is the pastor. The first incident reportedly occurred in Berkeley County and the victim’s father told law enforcement that the 13-year-old had been sexually assaulted by Owens.

A day after he was arrested on the first charge, law enforcement responded to another report of an assault, records show.

The 15-year-old victim’s father told law enforcement that his daughter had had a sexual relationship with Owens. The teen told her parents about the relationship after finding out that the same type of incident had been reported to law enforcement.
