Seattle Police were called to a Fremont bar Monday night to investigate a possible meth lab above the business.

Employees at the Dubliner bar on Fremont Ave N. and N. 35th told police that over the past few weeks they’ve noticed large groups of people coming and going from an apartment above the bar to an RV parked on the street.

One employee told police that she is worried about a meth lab exploding, and on several occasions, she told police , she has seen people with “poor teeth and disheveled clothing” carrying car batteries out of the apartment building. Battery acid can be used in the production of methamphetamine.

Earlier this afternoon, a Dubliner employee—who asked not to be identified—told me that he believes there’s been drug activity going on above the bar for the last few years. He says the police “are not really doing anything about it.”

“It’s like a revolving door, there’s people throwing money out windows [and] throwing keys down” out of the apartment, the employee says. “There’s been a couple of gunshots up there over the years and…a couple of [overdoses]. It’s a strange place up there.”

    I used to live there. Lots of crazy types. They’re SRO units. Cheap, month-to-month. When I was there it was pretty quiet. Would be a good place to make meth, though.

  4. Is the Dubliner a faux Irish bar? I’ve only been there a couple of times during the day and I sat talked to an older guy who was working the bar with an Irish accent, whom I assumed was the owner. If he was faking it he was good. Maybe you just have to have one Irish owner to be an Irish bar. It’s a pretty generic term anyway. It’s like saying Italian pizza place.

    I probably haven’t hung out in the area long enough to know any better, but I never saw any sketchy shit around there, just mostly college age kids playing pool, and some older people eating lunch. I guess I was wrong. I thought most of the sketchy stuff happened around the Ballroom/Nectar area. Didn’t someone just get shot at the Ballroom two days ago?

  7. I know some people who work in the building across the street. They say they watch people throw stuff up and down from the windows all day long. Seen police go in there many times.

    Is this because Seattle’s lame enforcement of drug laws make it a snorting, shooting, sniffing, smoking paradise for druggo day laborers?

  15. lolz, many years ago, when I was looking at places to rent, I asked to take a look at those apt units. I had a digital camera and asked if I could take some pictures, so I could revisit my take on the space, where I could put stuff, pretty standard stuff.

    The landlord shook his head and said “you’re not taking pictures on my property!” and almost kicked me out.

  17. l’m just wondering why they’re finding this stuff out now. This has been going on for close to a decade, if not more, though prostitution tends to be the more prevalent issue.
