Pretty sure you don’t need to get someone’s consent to show them on tv as long as you weren’t secretly taping them in the privacy of their own home.
Loveschild- I totally agree. That dog probably really didn’t appreciate being outed like that, and his owners have probably sent him to some sort of Straight Kennel where he gets treats for pretending interest in female dogs and gets hit with a rolled up newspaper whenever he starts humping the other boy dogs. Tragic.
I bet at least one of them is crazy enough to sue her for character defamation or using a made-up name, or something.

@9: That’s a little simplistic: in L.A., they have to put up a sign at every major border where they’ll be filming that says something like “By walking here right now, I agree to let the film company use my image in whatever filmed thing I’m walking through”, but yes, there are a million ways to get around having to actually obtain consent here.
If you are in the street, you have no reasonable expectation of privacy, especially if you are taking part in a protest, designed to get media attention. No consent it is required.
That last sentence should say, “No consent is required.”
If protestors don’t want their faces used, they shouldn’t go out in public.

19 I feel that as long as they’re not focusing on any particular individual that can be easily recognized, it is a pretty legitimate use of a communicative medium. That however is not what people like Portia are doing by zooming in on individuals. No matter how angry she’s at them, it is reckless for her to do so.

@21: First, I doubt Portia cut together the tape for this piece or even had any input on it.
Secondly, intimidatory? This piece of satire? If Jimmy Kimmel ran the faces with their names and residences and proposed burning their homes, then I could get on board with you. But this is not intimidation. It IS ridicule, but that’s free speech.
They were perfectly happy to be out there originally, promoting their opinion and like it or not, in today’s digital age, these images will be available FOREVER. If they didn’t want to be forever tied to their opinion, yes, they should stay home.
@21- Welcome to a the land of free speech. You are free to speak, other people are free to respond. The can make fun of you. They can show pictures of you speaking. They can quote you. They can boycott your business. They can be mean and disrespectful and unpleasant. That’s life. They might even break a law, in which case the police will (hopefully) be on your side.
Throughout the history of the USA this has been the case. Taking to the streets in public protest isn’t as safe as anonymously ranting on the internet. And that’s just the way it is. That’s why I have so much admiration for the Civil Rights movements in which black, hispanic, asian, female and gay people put so much on the line simply by walking down a street holding a sign. Many of them lost their jobs, lost friends and family, and suffered violence from unruly mobs and from the police which should have been protecting them.
For you to whine because some late night TV show made a little bit of fun of a couple people who trying to get attention is pathetic. The “victimized because I can’t oppress” concept is sad, and it’s followers pitiable.
