Several years ago my mother moved to Florida to help take care of her mother—a generous gesture that has stranded my left-leaning, pro-gay, culture-loving mom in a wasteland of idiocy*. Case in point: This letter to the editor published in Central Florida’s The Ledger, forwarded to me by my mom, who added nothing but the usual pleading in her eyes to please get her the fuck out of here once her daughterly duties have wrapped up.
Gay Military: Parental Heartbreak
As a former staff sergeant, war veteran and drill instructor in the Marine Corps, I believe the repeal this law will cause living hell within the ranks of the military, and also for the moms and dads whose kids are serving. It will be heartbreaking when a son comes home and says to his parents ‘I’m gay’ when he didn’t leave home gay.
When it comes to gays in the military, it is not a question of them not being patriotic or not physically fit. Unfortunately, they are not morally fit. Their lifestyle has disqualified them to serve.
One must understand that a homosexual person does not reproduce (homosexuals recruit). When I was a young Marine, one tried to recruit me into that lifestyle. It caused panic and fear to come over me. It is not discrimination or hate speech toward the gays, it is simply saying no.
These young people will be exposed to strong sexual attractions, and some will give themselves over to it because they are young and vulnerable.
Repeal the don’t ask, don’t tell policy and you will have the men who serve in an uproar. You will have open sex in the barracks, name calling, real threats and fighting among the troops, and even worse the violence of blanket parties. Late at night, some men will throw a blanket over a gay person and beat the life out of him. The repeal of this policy will give way to violence, no matter how much instruction is given by their leaders.
Also, you will have disunity on the battlefield.
Today, if my son was going into the military, I would be more concerned about him coming home a gay person than worrying about him getting wounded or killed in battle.
We are becoming a pathetic nation with no clear moral values.

I can’t believe he ever served in the military. Debauchery as a description of my and my shipmates time in the service would be an understatement. Has he ever traveled around a military base and seen the porn shops and liquor stores? My god, an overseas base supports the local economy through prostitution alone.

As full of shit as he is, the letter-writer’s attitude is extremely common in the military. Be prepared to deal with a lot of this if DADT ever gets repealed.

The military pulls most of its volunteers from poor, rural areas where people don’t have any other job options. These are not parts of the country where people are particularly tolerant. There’s a steep slope to climb here before you reach acceptance.

A huge portion of gay history, particularly recent gay history, has to do with gay soldiers and sailors going off to WWII and coming back to the states realizing that there was no way in hell they were going back to the farms.
The reason New York and San Francisco and several other cities had such early thriving gay subcultures is that they were places where soldiers returning from overseas got mustered out, and they simply didn’t use the rest of their ticket to go home to Iowa or Kansas.
“My son came home gay” is hardly new, and has absolutely nothing to do with DADT or its repeal. The openness about it is new-ish, but not the reality of it. Truth is, your son left home gay, and is no longer willing to pretend about it.
Oh my God, that letter made me laugh out loud. It’s not only dumb, it’s campy as hell. I could almost see him clutching his pearls with one hand as he typed the letter with the other.

I never understood a breeder’s notion that if one doesn’t reproduce, one must recruit.
Whenever someone brings up this gay recruitment argument or the people choose to be gay argument I always ask “what exactly would it take for you to decide to be gay?” Of course the answer is a vigorous “nothing could ever make me be gay!”. Makes you wonder why they think every other straight person is so much more susceptible to gay advances.
Also, is anyone else sick of the arguments of “if you allow them to serve openly we’ll just beat them to death so you have to keep them in the closet to protect them from us committing a crime”. I do feel sad for any kid whose parent would rather see them dead than gay.
Yet another argument against homosexual rights that assumes that sex with your own gender is really, really tempting.

All these guys who think gay is a choice just really make me wonder if they are all bisexual or plain gay. I really hope one day someone does some kind of arousal study on these people.
