Now, usually advice-giving is Dan’s purview, but given the number of slog commenters who indicate that they’re not pros at this (and the number of sloggersโhey Lindy!), I thought some advice for prep would be good useful.
Some people skip meals on SuperBowlEve (that’s today) with the thought of the vast quantities of food and drink to be consumed tomorrow. This is a bad idea, as it will lead to excessive hunger/eating/filling up/(binging and purging?) early. You want to have your usual three-squares today, and a solid late breakfast tomorrow. This enables you to pace yourself throughout the pre-game, game, and post-game Dionsysian gluttony. Also, a solid base (have some potatoes and bacon with that breakfast!) will provide more absorption for the alcohol, enabling you to maintain a buzz without getting incoherent or making any stupid side bets.
My own prep schedule for today includes cooking the Liithuanian and Polish sausage in beer, so it will be grill-ready tomorrow. The hot Italian sausage I’ll pre-cook in garlic-olive oil tomorrow, since I’m buying that ultra-fresh on game day. Buy condiments (cannot have too much, or too many different kinds of, mustards and salsas). Other folks are on chips and salsa and bread duty, so that’s all I’ve got on my plate. Today is also the day to read your Sunday paper a day early, since all the pre-game coverage is already written. No point cluttering your Sunday up with sports pages.
Liveslogging commences in about 25 hours. till then. . .

I’ll be going surfing, but that’s sound advice for any party day.
I had planned on a light breakfast tomorrow, but what you make a lot of sense.
Honestly. Someone need to buy this guy a Barbie.
Sausage in beer? Yah hey der!!
to Bachmannize. I detest Michele Bachmann. Even if this act goes to a worthier candidate, can we please think of a gross act to attach to her name?
oops. wrong Slog entry!
Hey Bill, what kind of beer do you use with your sausages? Cook’s Illustrated recommended Budweiser if you were staying cheap (and depending on the volume of beer needed, cheap is usually the way I go), but wondered what your thoughts were.
I’m going to a get your face eaten by squirrels party instead.
Wait a second…. You are advocating prevention of stupid side bets? That is an odd strategy.
My preparation has included collecting coupons from direct mail circulars for Black Angus and KFC.
I used to do vodka-soaked watermelon for game snacks when I lived in southern California years ago. But beer-soaked sausages sounds like a better option for non-tropical climates. Less likely to cause blackouts before the end of the game too.
Whatever you do, it’s important that by the third quarter all the males in the house are sitting on sofas with their heads back snoring. I recommend eight ounces of bourbon on an empty stomach by noon.
Horseradish

I go with heavier beer (guinness for polish or brats) for darker meat sausages, lagers for lighter meats (like lithuanian sausage). the beer should give some flavor, but not overwhelm. and if you use shitty beer, it doesn’t add much.
Thanks, Bill. I’ll try that out next time.
