If you are one of the thousands of people who’ve attended the city’s waterfront redesign meetings over the past few months (to hear James Corner propose installing hot tubs on Pier 62, for example), then you probably received an email notice today informing you that Let’s Move Forward—the pro-tunnel group that’s urging voters to vote yes on Referendum 1 this August—has filed a request with the city for your contact information.
From the letter (.pdf)
Let’s Move Forward Approve Referendum 1 campaign has made a public disclosure request for copies of contact information for all persons who are in the notification database for upcoming Waterfront Seattle related events… In compliance with our obligations under the law, the City intends to release the requested disclose-able records, including your name and contact information, in response to this and any other future requests. It is possible that you will receive future communication from the Let’s Move Forward campaign…
Of course we will. “We feel that these are the kind of [civically-minded] people who might be interested in our campaign,” explained Alex Fryer, campaign spokesman for Let’s Move Forward, when reached by phone today.
Bravo guys, this is an incredibly clever move.
Not only can Let’s Move Forward extend its email blast by 1,000 people at least, but the campaign will be able to psychologically tie the success (or failure) of rebuilding Seattle’s waterfront to the success (or failure) of the deep-bore tunnel.

This is a really creepy move on their part.
Fuck them. I don’t need any shill group trying to sway me – my elected representatives have done that already, and they’re the ones I expect to speak for their decision, not another stupid PR campaign, whether it’s grassroots or just astroturf. That said, when I proudly sign in at a public event I figure anybody on earth is welcome to whatever contact info I put down. Open government is open.
You’re just jealous you did not think of it first.
Your last sentence does not make any sense.
What #3 said.
And did you guys even report on the EIS that Peter Hahn signed earlier this week? Or did I just miss that?
If big brother can’t convince you, they data mine your info to trick you into voting.
Figures.
This is creepy, and if these creeps’ mission was to get me to mobilize against the tunnel, well, mission accomplished. Good jerb, jerks – you just created a new anti-tunnel activist (and volunteer canvasser for the anti-tunnel referendum.)
What #3 and #4 said — makes absolutely no sense.
Would it be different if it had a boulevard that was 7 lanes wide, with 23 stoplights, or a Choppaduct?
The meetings assume the state would move forward with their tunnel.
Just remember that if they start spamming people’s emails, they have to adhere to http://business.ftc.gov/documents/bus61-… or “Each separate email in violation of the CAN-SPAM Act is subject to penalties of up to $16,000”
What’s Inslee’s stand on the tunnel?
Yes what is his stand. Is he going to veto any legislation to stick overruns on Seattle?
How about a nice big cup of So Fucking What? Political groups target voter demographics for information all the time.
Duh.
And @9, the Can Spam Act applies to BUSINESSES. Read your own link.
Well, for those with short memories, when you participate in a public record like that then you should expect that the record could be requested by the public.
