State Sen. Fred Jarrett (D-41), a longtime Republican who switched parties in late 2007, has reportedly hired Bruce Boram, a Republican consultant, to help him with his campaign for county executive. Jarrett is running against three Democratsโ€”State Rep. Ross Hunter (D-48) and King County Council members Larry Phillips and Dow Constantineโ€”and one Republican, former KIRO anchor Susan Hutchison, for the exec job, which is officially nonpartisan.

Boramโ€”whom I once referred to as a “<a href="b516/1243028155-photo3.jpg“>Republican hit man,” when he did some work for the Seattle firefighters unionโ€”is best known for serving on the Dave Reichert’s 2004 campaign, and for creating a series of controversial, anonymously funded ads attacking former state insurance commissioner Deborah Senn, who ran for attorney general in 2004. Boram resigned from Reichert’s campaign over the ads, which accused Senn of dismissing a fine against an insurance provider in exchange for funding for four new employees in her office. (The ads were later ruled illegal.) Boram’s consulting firm, Catalyst Consulting, has also worked for former lands commissioner Doug Sutherland, a Republican; the Whatcom County Republican Party; and United for Washington, a conservative, pro-business PAC.

Jarrett has not yet returned a call for comment.

  1. Erica,
    you stupid cunt,
are you aware it is not against the law to be a Republican,
even in a Liberal shithole like Seattle?

(ps- it’s always classy to quote yourself…)

  2. “Jarrett has not yet returned a call for comment.”

    Comment on what?
Was there a question hidden in this steaming pile of crap you vomited up?

  3. Touchy, touchy, here aren’t we tonight? Maybe Erica’s facts and comments hit just a little to close to home?

Right, there’s nothing wrong with being a Republican, or being a former Republican. Susan Hutchison certainly has no such qualms. But there ARE differences between the parties and the values held by candidates of the two parties (and yes, the political consultants candidates choose to hire…)

Let’s have it all out on the table for voters to see and consider. Certain election contests may be “non-partisan” but that only refers to the form of the ballot; it says nothing about the candidates themselves.

  4. Erica tramples the truth and the English language with this pathetic piece. The ads were not anonymous, they were clearly labeled by the group that ran them. The courts ruled that this disclosure was incomplete and that their top donors must be disclosed as well, something the law was unclear about. The legislature passed a new law clarifying the requirement in the next sesion. The ads ran in the primary and Senn won the primary. She lost in the general because was an extremist candidate, too out of touch with the mainstream voters.

  5. Only in the Stranger (and on stranger yet Slog) would Erica’s breathless “disclosures” and “revelations” of REPUBLICAN (gasp!) affiliations of candidates be considered “news”.
    We are truly DIVERSE.
As long as we all think alike…

  6. why post that you’re calling him about something you heard? if you aren’t sure, why not wait until you are sure to tell us one way or the other.

didn’t dan have some beef with a local newsperson for exactly that? for reporting something as meaningless as “so and so may or may not be using a pink dildo?”

cause right now this post is sort of the same. it’s not reporting anything other than you’re doing your job as a reporter and calling jarret to see if he has hired a tool.
